BTW - I'm at 5.275 and holding steady. I had expected a little higher but after making my first pass (yes, I'm one of those who does two or three passes and comments later)I realized there are a lot of entries and quite a few good ones. That is likely to lower the score for most of us middle of the roaders. Every challenge ends up with a different scale based on the quantity and quality of entries. |

Floating between 5.1 and 5.3, with 5 comments. About what I expected given the nature of my photo, especially with the strength of the field. I've only voted on a little less than half the entries and I've found some outstanding pics! |

Just a guess, but I believe the scoring bell curve will be steeper on this challenge. Since there are so many pictures, it becomes harder to stand out in the crowd and that limits the really high scores. The fact that this is a Free Study will tend to limit the really low scores by reducing (though not eliminating- LOL) the number of "Doesn't meet the challenge" votes. That leaves a HUGE middle ground, and might help explain why some otherwise good shots are being dragged down. |

I agree, this makes sense...

well that stat is innaccurate since in order to have votes counted i need to vote on way more images than that (over 200 at least in the current challenge).

Not a very "article 19" comment from Article19. Made me smile a bit.
PS Martin...Your ballet photos are absolutely beautiful.

I find it a bit pretentious that many posting in this thread thought their work was deserving of 7-8. If it were that way, 7 would be average and top 3 finishers would average 9-10 and anything under 6 would suck.
People complaining that they're around 6.xxx. I personally would have given my own photo a 6 but will be lucky to break 5.0 by the end of the challenge, sitting at 4.8696 after 116 votes and 2 comments.
My entry may not be the best photo I've ever taken, but in the month of October, it was a new and refreshing genre for me and therefore "good" in my eyes. I would definitely hang this photo on my wall but even homeless people surround themselves with "trash."
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'd like to finish in the upper 50% this challenge and misery does enjoy company. It's times like these when I fall back onto my sig and tell myself, "It's them, not you." ;)

I was wondering when somebody would burst into the room and call the complaint-police!
Bran-O-Rama...look around, there's not a lot of 'complaining' going on here...
I could just as easily misconstrue your second paragraph as complaining about your score as well and your claim to have a 6+ photo to be 'pretentiousness'...

Considering how many excellent photos are in this challenge, I guess it's reasonable to say that I'd be smack in the middle yet again. But what really irks me is that out of 120 votes only TWO people cared enough to leave me comments. I know this has been mentioned in other threads and I think it's worth mentioning again, please leave comments! :) I mean, how else can I escape mediocrity?

I think it will take some time for comments to appear...I haven't commented yet, but I've done some voting...

I'm exceeding expectations. Well, my expectations were not to high. It wasn't the best picture I took for the month and I can't imagine it being really interesting to anyone but me so I'm happy at where I am and for any comment I garner. The score right now is 5.2ish. |

Lower than normal? I dunno.
Lower than I'd like? Yes.

I've got a 4.6812 right now. Yeah Baby! :-) But my one (and only) commentor told me that the contrast was too low. I looked at the image on my work monitor and found that, yep, the comment was correct. Flat, flat, flat!!! So I recalibrated my monitor at home. Hopefully things will improve from here on out. |

They rigged the site to give everyone a "1" every hour. You could only sit and watch your free-fall wondering what the heck was going on. |

I felt like mine would do a little better than it is, but after seeing how many wonderufl entries there are I am pleased to be where I am.

I'm a little above my average and I'm ok with that. This is the first time I've had 134 votes and not one comment though.
It is one of those shots that could get equal 1's and 10's because it is "outside the box", so maybe people just don't know what to say.
