I got my first 'real' job. My neighbor asked me to shoot his daughters senior class picture, on about 15 hours notice. Submission for the yearbook is due tommorrow. The weather here has been clouds & rain for the last two days. These were shot in their sitting room. Comments & critiques please. There has been no editing done yet.

I think the compo is interesting and this is a generally flattering angle, however, I find the lighting to be to dark, especially for the eyes and on her left side. |

I like the first one a lot. The mood and softness...however it does need to be brightened up a bit, and I suggest cropping it so that there's not so much above her head. The focus has been shifted from her face to the textile behind her, and with a yearbook picture, the emphasis should be entirely on her. Great job.

I agree with atsxus. The first one is definitely a better pic, but it could be brightened a bit.

I prefer the first as well.
Definitely crop lower, probably as you go to 5x7 or 8x10 format.
Brighten a bit and then sharpen the eyes.
I would try to burn the fabric in a bit so it doesn't attract so much attention. You could also add a little simulated DOF if the fabric is still too strong.
Good shot. I look forward to seeing the end result.

The first :-)
They're dark but you also said you haven't done any editing yet.
I really like the chair she's sitting in. Are the photos going to be black and white or color? |

Color, I believe. Here is a partially edited shot. Kristine sent this over, she is more adept at PSP than I am.

Coo, it's still dark, and I'd say it'll be really really dark once published (compressed) in a wee year book photo. Could do with a bit of airbrushing too since it's a photo that lots of her friends/family will see! Then again, she may just want to be au naturelle |

I hope you don't mind me taking a quick stab at it... I did an auto contrast adjustment, then a very slight curves adjustment to brighten her skin a bit. Then I used autofx's dreamy plugin with a peachy colored tint. Just one way...I'm sure there are many others who can do it more justice but I thought I'd try. I love the pose and the chair...great work! :o)

I love this version! I'd probably crop more off the top though, maybe try putting her eyes on the 1/3 line from the top. |

I don't mind a bit. In fact I really appreciate the help. I am not at all proficent in PSP or the Gimp. And when you say what is you did, I can attempt to recreate or enhance the picture. Here is the 9 pm cst. Kristine likes it, once we add in a border I think it will be the submission for her yearbook. She really likes the catch, we mirrored the image so her stud on the wrong side.
Then sometime later this week, we'll do another shoot for a batch of pictures for her to give out. Where would I find this dreamy plugin you folks mentioned ?
