I tried something waaayyyy out of the box and am paying the price for it. In reality, I knew this would happen with this photo, not a good one to pick for this site, but I don't care, I like it anyway.

No, don't bury the camera! I just went through the Music challenge and I think there are plenty of great shot there. Now, for the dirnking part ........

I also believe that this occurs. However, I do not think it makes people “narrow minded”. If the viewer can not determine what they are looking at then they can’t make the connection to the subject of the challenge. Without that connection then it is hard to rate the shot. Yes, we can rate the shot based on the technical aspects and if it is esthetically pleasing. But rating without reference to the challenge topic would negate having topics to begin with.
