Since it appears that the Free Study for the month will be over 400 entries, I would like to appeal to the Mighty Admins that the voting period be extended so that those of us with limited time resources may be allowed to vote on all. I do not wish to be disenfranchised!

Not a bad idea. I'll run it by the rest of SC and see what they think.

In order to better meet your needs, we have implemented a feature in which the SC are able to answer your question before you even have it. |

I'm not against this, but the Parts Challenge was also well over 400.
We didnt have 2 weeks to vote on them then.
June free studie had 385 photos and turned out allright.
I realy don't know, but then again, I'm not on the SC :-)

A seven day voting period it is only 60 (+/-) images per day (if there are around 400 images), not really a heavy load. In fact, at dial-up speeds, I beleive that is less than 20 minutes per day to view and vote on all the images.
I usually spend about 30 minutes in the morning and 30 in the evening to vote until I am done. Sometimes I am travelling and other times there just isn't the time and other times the challenge just isn't that interesting. I would think that leaving the seven day voting period is probably a good solution.
Leave it at one week.

Sorry, I got distracted while counting the votes especially the ones from Florida -- I would like to call for a recount, please. |

I don't know if i could wait two whole weeks to see my score do what it does...(go down!)...it was a little bit overdone in March Free Study...two weeks was way too long; by the last five days, i was receiving about a vote per day.

60 images per day?! Good lord that's speedy. I usually take my time with each photo and study it and therefore not as efficient when it comes to voting. I also like to leave as many comments as possible regardless of the score I assign. If we leave it at the usual timeframe, no way will I be able to vote on all entries. On a good day, I can probably go through 15-20 entries (30 absolute tops if I don't eat/sleep/work) so 60/day is out of the question.

I agree with Tranquil on this!

You're only counting one challenge, not three... And you say I should vote on 60 images in 20 minutes? I prefer to take more time normally.

So if your shot is in the bottom half of my voting que, you don't care if I don't give you a comment/vote? What about others that might want my comment/vote? Patience IS a virtue...

in keeping with the flow - a week should be long enough.
i would prefer not see the voting time period altered merely due to the number of entries. if it is, this will be a debate every time there are more the X number of entries.
those who take their time voting still will - those that don't still won't...

Then if it's decided (majority vote here so far) that no extension shall be granted for this challenge, I estimate that I can vote on all entries and leave no comments (my version of speed-voting®) or vote on less than half (one third, maybe?) and leave comments. I think the majority of middle-of-the-pack photographers, such as myself, really want folks to leave comments but that is usually not the case and we are left to figure out for ourselves what we did wrong.

Personally I would be more than happy to have the time given for voting match the time given for entering.
I can categorically state that I will not be voting on this challenge specifically because of the high number of entries. I hate voting on anything less than all the entries in a challenge and I take my time to vote. I like to be able to go through the images more than once too.
And as for 60 images a day - not to be rude but some of us do have non-DPC stuff in our lives too, hard though it is to believe. Work, friends and (gasp) other interests make 60 images a day every single day for the week seem quite a lot to me.
It's really up to SC/ Site Admin to make the call.
I don't think it's fair to expect lots of attention (and feedback) on your entries and yet be too impatient to give people time to provide it.
I haven't been able to enter myself, which I'm bummed about. I was hoping to take some pics on getting home from France earlier this week but then something came up (the pavement came up to my face) and I didn't get to it.
Ah well!
I still hope to browse some of the entries and comment a few that I select from thumbnails.

I'd vote for a longer voting period. There should be some very good entries here, since we've had a month to take, select, and work on making the shots the best we can.
Why not allow voters to take their time when going through them, and enjoy them.
It's not about "Speed voting" |

That's my point exactly as I like to take my time to analyze and absorb what the photo is all about before voting and perhaps commenting. But like Kavey stated, it's really up to the site admins to decide.

Whatever dial-up you know of that loads that quickly, I want it! There's absolutely no way I could consistently load 3 pictures per minute. It frequently takes a full minute to load 1 picture, and that doesn't include any time at all for actually viewing, judging, and submitting my vote and/or comment.
I don't particularly care whether the voting period is extended or not though. I try to vote on every picture, but I think it would be silly to not vote at all just in case I don't turn out to have enough time to finish.

A *month* for voting? Nowayman. If any future free studies are decided for a month of voting, you can count *me* out of them. Not that anyone really cares if I'm in them or not. lol

LOL
I think 1 year of voting would be best, less than 2/day, anyone can handle that, even Florida people... :))
