It was my understanding the the SC was going to be cracking down on the number of threads being created on the same topic. It's was also my understanding that the rant forum is now being moderated.

How come there's 25 new political rants per day?

I know I have the option to ignore the rant section, but I don't want to do that ... I actually enjoy photography rants, photoshop rants, equipment rants, etc.

Perhaps we could create a "political rant" forum with the ability to ignore that?

No! I want no more encouragement for the darned things to breed. :)

It should go away soon. I hope.

PLEASE! If poeple really want to talk so much about politics on a photography sight - mabey it could have it's own forum. I too do not want to have to block the "rant" forums, but I'm tired of seeing so many of them be political!

Just have some more prozac and ignore the political ones. It's not hard to tell which ones they are.

my guess is that the Bush vs. Kerry rants will continue untill election day. Then they'll be replaced by cellebration/whining, and in a month or so it'll all be over for the next three and a half years

They already have their own forum here.

Sorry, I mis-read that ... you mean another site's forums. Probably get you suspended there too though ...

Yeah, another site. If I might get suspended for posting photos in a political site, why aren't political threads locked here (at least)?

I really don't know about other sites ... we discussed it here and decided to allow the discussion, but people are not doing a very good job of self-discipline -- except me : ) I've been largely avoiding those threads lately, since it would be impossible to both participate and moderate them.

However, I am a strong advocate of both free speech and the function of DPC as a community; in general, I think a family which squabbles over the dinner table is less dysfunctional than one where everyone eats silently in front of the TV ... or in their own rooms.

I just want to say. I understand that peoples political views can effect their lives and point of view. But I wish people would keep it out of the comment section. Your personal political views should have nothing to do with the quality of a photograph, and I submit my pictures to have THEM critiqued, not hear your political view of them. Sorry for ranting, but I am just so angry about this!
edit: didnt mean to put this in website suggestions.

The Rants forum does not come under "photography" heading, but an "other" heading. I was under the (perhaps mistaken) belief that the rants section is intended to include off-topic conversation. Ie, anything and everything, including political rants.

I think that one of the better features of DPC is its community, which, while interested in photography, has many more interests and much more to offer (including vibrant debate on political issues).

In the words of Homer (Simpson).... WOOOOOO HOOOOOO!

You go leagalbeagle, if that is truly your real name. I concur with you overview of the forum site we all call DPC.

I back your observation up 100%.

ahhhhh...but...you need to put you cat on a diet. One too many Frisky dinners I think.

Off to McDonalds.

This poster was complaining agout political rants showing up as comment on her photos. Thst is different than rants in the forums. Perhaps she doesnt want political opinions attatched to her portfolio.

I think she should report the comments to the SC and also request that they be removed.

yes, emorgan, exactly. I have no problem with someone "ranting" their political opinions, just think that it should be kept to the proper place. And as a comment on my photograph (IMO) is not the place for it. I did notify SC and it the inflamatory part has been removed. Thanks for listening yall.

I dd not mean to suggest that political rants should be conducted anywhere other than the Rants forum - comments on photos are generally not the right place for them. Though thick skin generally helps when contemplating comments.

But DPC would be a poorer place without the vigourous debate that takes place in the Rant section (almost none of which has anything to do with photography).
