I am seeing a toples model in red G-String with a santa hat...

it is different.... but hey :) Maybe not suiting for the occation :)

I could recomend, dancing children around a christmas tree.... desaturate all colors but red in the picture.... or a kid opening a gift, and keep the same desaturated thing going on there....

Dunno... I like the G-String model better though.... :D

Try nativity scenes of all shapes and sizes wherever you can find them. You can get very creative with lighting, angles, point of view, depth of field etc. Plus your little models will hold perfectly still for you so you don't have to rush.
Or do some online research into the customs of other countries - I bet you could find inspiration in their traditions (e.g. I grew up in Bavaria without a Santa. We had a "Christkind", instead - think of it as a baby Jesus in the form of an angel).
Not exactly a very concrete example, I know, but might be enough to spark something in you.

For your family portraits and kid shots, how about a trip to the local Christmas tree farm? Shots of them picking out the family tree, or among the trees, or something like that? I might try something like that with my own kids this year. Just an idea! :O)

edit...ooh, even have them stringing up some popcorn or something on the outdoor trees... Daddy holding the little one up to put the angel or star on the top... that could be so precious!
