I think Tim is right .It's how well your subject is presented that makes someone want to look at it for a long time.

Not exactly, But I think it''s a definite part of it as are a lot of things too complicated to try and rationalize.

Well done, clean photos with recognizable themes are usually gonna do better anywhere. And if the idea is simple enough for broad appeal, pleasant without being sappy or sad enough without being morose you will communicate well without alienating others.

But that is true in all of the art world if you are gonna measure by popular appeal.

I often choose little things that appeal to me without regard to whether others will like it most of the time. It allows me to learn by making mistakes or getting negative feedback and I learn faster that way.

Plus, I like doing what I consider good photos to me that others don''t like as much. It makes things funner to talk about :-)

Well, I think that I agree with everything Lisae has just posted. I hope those who do something a little out of the ordinary get recognized for their efforts. I have no ideas myself yet, but the brain is burning and rusty wheels are turning in my head, LOL.

I think many of us are dreading a proliferation of babies, kittens, puppies and flower buds in this challenge. Hopefully that means it won't happen.... please! I have this feeling that we'll see at least one photo featuring a baby or child's new teeth. Perhaps some things still in their packaging...

I say photograph whatever you want and title it "New Compared to the Age of the Universe". :P Newness is relative, you see.

I honestly have no idea right now what I'm going to photograph.

Well it's almost fall so we should be spared bird nests. :-)

I'm very temped to head right back to the pottery but then my photo would be identifiable to most of the regular posters. hmmmmm

JMS are you still working on that list of secondary awards? YOu can add 'Best Cliche of the Week' to the list. he he.

Wooho. I'm really excited. Can't wait till next monday :-) Or did you mean "Something new" with "current challenge". Sometimes quite confusing what the "current challenge" is...

You have a point Stephan, 'current' is a word that applies to all three states of the process. a.

I have been looking for my shot for two days and haven't found it yet; not my secondary shot either. If I were in the desert I could find it, I am sure. I thought the subject was hard also for I thought of young animals, babies, wet paint, and the same things a lot of you have but the word "new" meaning is anything new. That is anything that is new to you. That could be tonight's sunset, a breath of air, almost anything that you haven't experienced at that point in time before. I will keep looking for what I wanted in the first place but you can always fall back on anything that is new.
