I've just got a new computer (Windows XP) but I'm still using my old monitor. The problem is that, while it works fine with the old computer (Windows 95), with the new one part of the screen is remaining blank. How do I adjust Windows XP so that it will use the full screen? Making adjustments on the monitor moved the image, but did not completely solve the problem. |

You can buy a new 19 inch monitor for 240$ with flat face and will be up to date for Windows XP. |

Pitsaman, I'm in South Africa where things are quite a bit more expensive than they are there. That's why I decided to keep my monitor for a while and see if the price comes down.
I'm still using the old computer for internet at the moment, but I'll try doing what you said tomorrow, and I'll let you know if it works. Thanks. |

Win xp defaults at 60mhz refreshrate unlike Winme or win98....presuming your monitor isnt to old try going "right mouse button ..properties...advanced....monitor tab and tick "hide modes that monitor cant display" and select highest refreshrate available i.e 85mhz.
Also if you have a modern video card i.e geforce card .....32bit is better opposed to 16bit.
If that dosent work just change desktop size xp usually defaults to 800x600 ....1024x768 is what i personally recomend but mabye your vidcard is older therefore 640x480 might have been what you used before?
good luck

Sounds like you need to change your monitor settings - there should be buttons/ menus on the monitor that let you the horizontal and vertical size of the display - you can move it around and stretch it so that it fits... |

Gordon, you're right. It's just so long since I've set my monitor (4.5 years) that I'd forgotten how to use those buttons. I got it sorted out in the end though.
Hoogie, I am stuck using 800x600 - it's a bit of a nuisance because a lot of my non-photographic stuff has come out the wrong size and I am struggling to get everything reformatted to fit my requirements. My photos don't look too good right now either. I suppose I'll get used to it, but I might just have to change my monitor sooner than planned. I wish those prices pitsaman referred to applied here - a 15 inch monitor would cost me the equivalent of US $400+. |

The old style monitors are quite cheap here, but they're soooo heavy. I'd rather wait until I can afford one of the new flat screen ones. |
