I wanted to thank everyone who voted me well even though my shot was a tad bit blurry. Which believe me, I knew when I entered it. Taking a picture of yourself is not easy when You don't have a shutter release cable. I had to focus the camera where I believed my head would be and then set the timer, get in position, and then hold the pose. 50 shots later, this was my best effort. Unfortunately, yes - the focal point ended up on my neck! But thankfully, I now have my cable, and had I had it earlier, one of the two alternate images below would have been entered. I welcome comments
The one entered:

i still like the first one. i gave it an 8, i thought the soft focus added to the feel of the picture. |

I Think some people are obsessed with pin sharp photos, if they are not sharp then they are wrong. Well photos do not need to be pin sharp to be a good photo. I liked the photo you submitted very much so i gave it a 7.

Just a suggestion that works quite well when doing this.
Instead of focusing where you think you are going to be, focus on the tripod from where you will be - then put the camera on the tripod and take the shot.
I.e., focus from where you will be to where the camera is going to be, rather than the other way around.

One of the strongest points of your original submission was the composition coupled with your expression. They make it a strong photo, even with the focus issues you recognized. And I like it better (even flawed) than the other two. Yes, the other two correct the focus issue but aren't as strong or emotive. You may be tired of this by now, but if you reshot the original comp and expression with the new cable release, I think you would be very pleased with the results. |
