I'm currently shooting for a challenge and have a great shot, but am dealing with a fair to middlin' lens flare. Obviously I can't post the shot since I may still use it, but what do you think? Always bad, sometimes good, it depends?

It's good when it helps to show that it's a scorcher of a day, for example, like in a desert. If it plays no role in the photo, it's bad.

Jacko's quite right with that summing up.

This is a shot in which the lens flare was pivotal. Without it would have been quite plain.

I agree with Jacko. It can really add some drama to the sun and light. Here is a creation of mine. It used to be a photo:



Here, I chose to include the lens flare to add a sci-fi feel to the sun and sky.

I agree with your comments and that is a great photo/sci-fi art shot. It would make a good book or album cover!

I think it can work, when it adds to theme of the shot, but in general, like anything, it should be deliberate/ controlled - though random chance can always lend a helping hand.
