I am expecting an Epson S2200 Photo printer to arrive this week and have been looking at different papers. Could someone explain when to use Matte, Semigloss, Luster and Glossy? I don't know what kind of papers to buy and cannot afford them all right now.
Thanks,
Ramona

Ramona,

I'm sure that someone will take issue with this but a simple rule that I'm aware of is to use Matte paper for portraits, etc since it is "hides" flaws well and is complementary to the subject (normally). The glossy paper is used for brighter colors and sharper prints since it is capable of reflecting more of the light that hits it and this creates more contrasts and tone ranges. Paper can only reflect the light that strikes it and colors absorb different colors leaving the color to be seen as the only one that reaches the eyes. Depending on the effect you are trying you choose a different paper. These are down and dirty rules naturally and open to interpretation, but it's a starting place. Like everything else it will depend on your tastes and budget.

2200 huh? From what I've read it's a sweet printer. . .
