I was taking pictures around town this evening and snapped these of my boys. They aren't the most cooperative models in town, but I thought these were cute. I don't know how you kid photographers do it... I was only trying to get these for about 5 minutes and they had me frustrated. Sheesh! :o)

My gf's kids were uncooperative for a long time with me taking their pic. I basically attached the camera to my hand at ALL times, now they realize they are going to be models. When I ask them to do something, they do it, so they can get back to what they wanna do.

That said, I really like your pics. The last one is a bit bright in the way the sun hit, but the first two are really really cute. I think maybe if the light was less harsh or the day a bit more overcast, you'd have had more luck that way. The poses and models are great!

Oh - question. Did you paint the sky in on the last pic? It doesn't look quite right, but maybe that's just cuz I live in Drear-a-cuse. :)

Those are cute pictures. They both have beautiful eyes, but the one in the first picture really has a beautiful color.

Nice pictures, Laurie! It's good that you took the pictures close to sunset (or sunrise), but that kind of sidelighting can be really hard to manage when it's filtered through dense trees. You would have more consistent lighting with a reflector to the boys' right, but then you're talking about an even bigger production with kids who just want to hurry up and get it overwith. You might want to use a soft fill flash to put more light on the subject instead.

My advice to getting your kids to cooperate more is to have girls instead - mine love having their picture taken. Get right on that. :-) If that's not an option, then maybe involve your sons in the poses and let them take one shot with their pose for each shot that you pose for them. Let them be as silly and boyish as they want once you finish getting the shots that you want. If all else fails, threaten to take away their PlayStation. ;-)

Thanks for sharing the pics!

Gracie just kinda poses for me nowadays...that can be frustrating? But she has been spoiled by the camera. She is prolly the most photographed kid ever? Those are great shots Laurie.......But Patience is a virtue with any children.

Thanks y'all... I really didn't intend to take "portraits" of the kids, but they just looked so cute I couldn't resist!

Mavrik...the sky was that color. The only editing I did was auto-contrast, very slight curves adjustment, resize, and USM. I didn't fiddle with the color because I loved the sunset glow. Must have been the 1B skylight filter I had on the camera or something that made it that blue. I'll take what I get!

Philip...my husband wanted to try again for a girl...so I told him that he could have all the girls he wants with his next wife.

Bren...thanks; the five year old has his dad's brown eyes, but the oldest and the little one got my hazel/green ones...hurray!!! :o)

Brian...you are SO blessed with Gracie...what a doll, and what a perfect model. Her looks and your skills compliment one another for perfection every time you take a picture! :o)

These are really nice Laurie! I like the first one the best. I also have 2 boys so I understand how hard it is to take photos of them. I usually get them in the shade and let them fight and talk and I ready myself then I scream, Look at me and smile! and SNAP ;o) LOL

Nice photos and handsome boys with beautiful eyes.

i dont know parrothead i think my kids may be the most photographed ever. :)
taking pictures with them is pretty much just following them around with the camera and alot of "hold on, hold on, don't move...got it", and when that doesnt work i just let them play, use a fast shutter, and hope for the best. sometimes when i am trying something new or checking the lighting, i use a big teddy bear, to get the lighting right, then I bring them in. they are pretty much my only models.

Hi Laurie, these are great portraits of your kids :-)
Nice work.

All the info above about lighting is true, but all things considered, these are just great.

LMAO!

p.s.I have found that outright bribery works very well with my son! That and letting him take pictures of me too - makes him feel more involved. Extra benefit is that he knows Mommy's camera is held in high esteem so he feels like it's an honor to him when I let him use it (if that makes sense).

Left you some comments. Those are truly great, Laurie. So much life and personality in them, and rich, soft colors and textures.
