This will be a refreshing break!
The challenge definition states, "Take your best photograph after the sun goes down." Hopefully this is completely unambiguous. Hopefully everyone will agree on the meaning of the following words, individually and collectively: take; your; best; photograph; after; the; sun; goes; and down.
It should be extremely simple to determine whether the photo meets the challenge, or not. And hopefully, any photo which might be validated will be validated to have been taken after sunset and before sunrise (local time). Let the games begin !

What if someone uses the midnight filter to fake night time? Or the other way of changing day into night? When it says 'goes down' does that mean all the way down past the horizon or just a little ways down? what if the shot is indoors with no windows? Do we really know if the sun has gone down yet? :P

So... if I take a photograph during a basketball game, at night, but *I'm* not outside, and the photograph isn't of anything outdoors - do I meet the challenge? Technically, it is at night, after the Sun goes down.
Of course I am being sarcastic here, but every challenge contains entries that only qualify as meeting the challenge in the minds of those who submit them. What aggravates me even more though is that (judging by comments), there are those who will vote a good score based solely on the fact that it is a good photograph - and even admitting that they know it doesn't meet the challenge.
Grrrr! |

Hmmm--that's a good point. Anything indoors at night would qualify but would be voted down I'm sure. But faking night time in a shot would not be. Is that something the site council is willing to disqualify? As I understand, there have been entries that ribboned with simulated night (once in a blue moon comes to mind; it didn't have the moon in it at all but rather the sun!) |

Jesus.... Take a picture at night. What could be more simple... Do we have to look up the definitions of night, sun, down, shot, and after??? If you want to make sure people get it, take the shot outdoors at night. If you don't want to make sure people get it, take a different shot. So quit arguing semantics and go shoot something...
I for one am looking forward to this challenge. I already have one shot in the can and a whole 6 nights left to shoot!

But, what if, instead of taking the shot after the sun goes down, someone takes the shot before the sun comes up? We should probably prepare for that.

This should be good for me, for most of my shots either done after the sun goes down or right before it comes up :-) |

What if I drag a nocturnal creature, such as a bat, into a closet in the daytime? Will that be ok? And will I survive the encounter with the bat? More importantly, can I Photoshop my blood marks off my lens?

I'm telling you right now, people, that I'll be marking down considerably for photos that do not include exif time stamp in their title and that must be verified by a notary public and stamped with their seal. You are forewarned! |

What about anyone living in the antartic right now and is in that period of permanent daylight? Has anyone stopped to consider that they may have to wait until about March for the sun to go down?
Well, that must rule out an awful lot of members here, possibly as high as 0.0004% !!!!
