Expert editing will also let you drop in a cloudy sky, or remove distracting elements, or create a black background. Things any ordinary everyday photographer might want to do, having NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with fantasy. Not that there's any reason to be afraid of fantasy. Not everyone owns a smoke machine.

For a Nightmares III challenge, do you want to give your family pet something that will make it foam at the mouth, then tease it into barking at you so you can get a shot you will title "Cujo," or....create the foam & maybe some bloodshot eyes in PP?

Expert editing does not = a photo manipulation challenge & photo manipulation does not = something other than photography. On the surface DPC is only about photography. It was created to help a few good photographers with new cameras improve. There is more to it than learning to make good use of your camera. It doesn't take more than determined effort to learn a camera & lenses. It can take a lifetime to know who you are & what you stand for as a photographer.
