How about a challenge for us non-masters, where we have to recreat a photo of our choice that has been done by a master (with the liberty of adding our own personal touch to it). it doesnt necessarily have to be a ribbon winner, just a well-know shot by a master.
it will give the non-masters a bigger chance to get a ribbon, in case there are any more masters challenges, and we can learn a lot by using the techniques of the more experienced photographers... plus im sure there will be lots of comments...

on another note, i think the masters challenges are great because it gives a little more meaning to the ribbon. at least in my case, it motivates me more to get a ribbon. i think there should be more (maybe even 1 per month, with a topic of course... not always free study)

I don't think that "recreating" other people work apeals to me in the least...

Recreating a great photo is a good learning experience. You don't have to do it within the context of a challenge though.

Well, if one were to do this, why imitate one of the "masters" on the site. Why not a famous photograph or professional photographer. Not to demean the talent on this site, but everything's relative.

I vote for DrJones, as long as he sends me a few of his models.

Actually, I think it's a good idea, but not from the standpoint of a learning experience, but rather of imparting a new interpretation/style/effect to an established photo.

in the context of a challenge, i think that people would recognize more the highest rated photos on dpc rather than from the real professionals. jsut because not everyone follows professional photography. It would just be easier to recognize, since active members (who have been here for at least a couple of months) have seen a lot of the highest rated photos...
