Spectacular results Susan! You got some really nice, even stain uptake, and that is hard to do on pine. Be darn careful on them now esp. with socks only; you'll be on your arse at the bottom before you know it!

She said they're spruce, not pine (not even knotty pine) ...
FWIW "orange pekoe" refers to the size/cut of the tea leaf bits, not a particular variety of tea ... but it looks like it makes a nice non-toxic stain -- good work! |

Well, I'd say she sure spruced them up!
FWIW, the problems with non-uniform stain uptake are pretty similar between spruce and pine. Both are due to the pitch content in the wood.

| Just had my best friend over and he's the one who put the stairs in orginally some 22 years ago, and he was really impressed with what I'd managed to do with them. So very happy to finally get his feedback :-) |
