I entered into a nature contest last week and tonight they had the opening night for the gallery. They also had an awards ceremony and I ended up getting 1st place. I am so excited. Of the 4 photo's I entered I got 1st place ribbon and 2 honorable mention ribbons. I couldn't believe it. I also won $75! My photo's get to be displayed in the show they are doing for a full month and people can even buy them. Crazy huh?! I'm just excited and wanted to share.

Yeah here is the link to the photo. I can't believe it still because it was taken with my G2, and there were some actual professional photographers in the contest. I am so stoked. Thanks here is the photo, what do you think?

~Storm Rising~

I adjusted the black and white colors to bring out the highlights in the clouds.

It wasn't on the internet. It was at BYU college in one of there nature museams. I was talking to one of the judges afterwards and he was talking to me about some of the little flaws in some of the prints that printers do (like in one the bear had a blue nose). He was in shock when I told him I went to Sam's Club and printed it for a $1.96.

Few things in life feel as satisfying and heart-warming as an unanticipated accomplishment, such as the recognition that you just earned.

It is a breathtaking image and it certainly warrants the accolades that you are receiving - Congratulations.

That's a stunning image - really high impact.

Congratulations on the win - and if you think anything like the way I do I bet you're more excited at the idea that your work is showing in an exhibition (and is on sale) than you are about the prize money!

WELL DONE!!!!

Holy cow! That's an incredible shot! Any special filters or spot editing, or is that just your straight curves and levels?

That is simply an astounding image.

That's a really great landscape shot!

A very unique landscape (and that's HARD) with three different kinds of lighting on the butte, clouds, and sky. Those wisps at the top of the clouds remind me of seeing snow blowing off the top of a glacier.
Great job, congratulations!

That's right, the prize money may buy me a filter or so, but I'm mainly excited that it get's to be in the museum for a full month and it's my first "out of the wired" contest :) We celebrated last night by going to Sushi!! The best stuff on earth.

Sushi? Sounds good to me.
I was recently lucky enough to enjoy two meals at Matsuri Japanese restaurant in London - it opened my eyes to Japanese food - before I'd been indifferent..

:D

Congratulations, Jeremy! That is a stunning photo, indeed. I never expected to get into photography in this way before DPC. I may also go look for contest in my local city.

Congratulations. I love the contrasts in the photo - blue vs red, softness of upper clouds vs. hard, sharply detailed rock.

I also love the "Delicate Arch". Lighting in both is fantastic. WHere were they taken ?

Thanks, they both were taken in Southern Utah. Delicate arch is probly one of the most photographed arches in the world, and it is in Arches NP and my "Storm Rising" was taken in Capitol Reef NP.

Now I've got to make it to all the other NP's in Utah.
