Under what category is the gun owner who's toddler shoots his sister with his gun? VILLIAN

What about the person who's gun discharges accidentally and hits an innocent victim? VILLIAN

What about the previously mentioned Zimmerman? Hero? VILLIAN

What about people openly carrying automatic rifles into Target? ... I suppose that is heroic?
Or the cop that shoots someone who is running away?
VILLIAN

Quite simple? Hey, that WAS simple! Seems the "responsible" (ooops) gun owner is always the VILLIAN. Funny how that works.

Sad and scary how many cowardly, neurotic peeps exist in our world.....afraid of their neighbors, afraid of their government, afraid of anything that might make them feel powerless. What a small, sad way to live.

If they'd spend half as much energy making friends as they do twisting themselves into knots trying to justify their "rights", they'd find they don't need a gun at all. Perhaps, they might even learn to admit they shoot things for fun.

I might then consider my incredible good fortune at pulling off a home invasion defense so rare it'll make headlines and garner movie rights while avoiding the overwhelmingly more likely accident or suicide, but the dramatic action music would quickly seque to a morose violin solo as I'm wracked with the guilt of taking guns to Walmart to assuage my own cowardice while leaving my family without so much as a taser or large dog to defend themselves in such a dangerous neighborhood.

I do shoot things for fun....That also helps me to stay in practice if the need arises. OK "justifying my rights". Your damn strait. How would you feel if I stripped away the 1st amendment. or how about the 15th amendment... or even the 19th amendment. Then we would be in a dictator situation. I have fought for every freedom in the constitution. including as I mentioned above the right to free speech...the right to vote....and the right for women to vote....

I just wish that the man that swore an oath to protect the constitution would do so...

You DO realize that every elected official swears that oath, don't you? And, for that matter, that your precious right to bear arms, which arguably applies only to "well-regulated militias", wasn't even PART of the original constitution?

Yes I know....The only thing the current one has tried to do is destroy the values of the constitution.

yep, its Obama's fault.

Since we want to go there. You also realize that the original language in the first revision of the Bill of Rights indicated that the regulated militia part wasn't important?

Fifth Article:
A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the People, being the best security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed, but no one religiously scrupulous of bearing arms, shall be compelled to render military service in person.

So you're not scared of anything or anyone? You've never been held up, mugged, or threatened in such a manner that you *knew* you were powerless? I'm assuming you've never had a gun pointed at you in anger or in the commission of a crime.

I have, and until you have, you're certainly not in a position to make comments about anyone's cowardice or bravery; you're just making noise.

So what *IS* your solution to this issue that's already extraordinarily convoluted?

A well regulated militia ....

They are the very first words in your citation, but still "not important"?

You're really well educated but you still happen to be stupid.

See how the "but" changed that whole thing? (btw, I don't mean the above, it's illustrative)

The final part of what I posted has the effect of negating the first portion, leaving us with the middle as the part which was most important.

There, I fixed that for you... Now grab a mirror.

Interesting headlines out of Oklahoma today.

Teenagers kill five with knives.

Can someone remind me how impossible this was?

The "but" simply states that the government cannot COMPEL a conscientious objector to bear arms against their scruples -- it "negates" nothing.

Come on Cory, I don't think anyone ever suggested that killings though the use of knives, hammers, cars, chainsaws or other devises was "Impossible". I know for a fact that I never suggested such a scenario since I happen to know different.

I would venture to say what most are advocating is that, for the average joe, the availability of a semi or automatic weapon makes killing a great deal easier.

Mass killings with kitchen utensils, while not impossible, most definitely are more difficult.

You are duly reminded that the bad guys with knives in your article were related to the victims, so it's more likley that they would have USED any guns available in the house rather than be stopped by them.

Kinda stepped in it in that one, din'cha, Cory?

There's that religious thing again.......gets you off the hook to serve your country. That's wrong.

Automatic weapons are not impossible to get....but they are extremely regulated and expensive. You cant just walk into your local gun store and buy an automatic. You need to go through a much stronger background check, go through a class III gun dealer (not all dealers have their class III license), and get an ATF class III tax stamp. Unless you buy one illegally on the black market it is hard to get one.

Uh, not only important, but necessary (which is why that word was added to later drafts). All versions basically state that a trained militia of the people was the best defense available to colonies without a regular army, so those people needed to have guns available even if they wouldn't be drafted into service. We're not talking about a trained militia of citizens in 2015, though, and that's no longer the best security for a country armed with missiles and fighter jets anyway. Fail.

Which is exactly why the use of automatic weapons is extremely rare in violent crime. Since the National Firearms Act of 1934, there have only been two homicides committed with legally owned automatic weapons (and much less than 1% of overall gun homicides). And yet, I don't hear people screaming about their 2nd amendment right to own a machine gun without stringent background checks and dealer oversight. You make a powerful argument for gun control.

Automatic weapons are much more "deadly" then other weapons....soo they priced them out of the market. Plus automatic weapons are not used to hunt and should not be used for home protection. An automatic weapon is like a spray paint can. You get a bunch of overspray resulting in a lot more collateral damage. A semi auto can be aimed and kept on target. A lot less collateral damage

FYI I looked into getting a tommygun a while back just to play with....It was $15000 pus the $350 class III stamp plus what ever fee the dealer was going to charge. I didn't get it.

ETA.... I also don't think the average person should be able to buy a tomahawk missile either

True is some cases, but you can always build you own cheap, legal, and untracable AK74 out of parts if you have basic mechanical skills.

I see something like this and I think, "That should not be legal, why do we make it so hard to get an AR-15 but this is O.K.? We ought to have a law!" Others tell us we have too many gun laws on the books and we have to let this sort of thing go.

Went to the local source for recycled art and educational supplies, pulled this first out of the box of miscellaneous buttons ... :-)
