Harrrumph! I don't know if I'm a "ribbon hog" but I've got more than 40 of them and if you look at my ENTRIES, I'm all over the map. Can't help it is a certain subset of those are the ones that appeal more to the voters, though. So here's a shout-out for all of us blind squirrels :-)

Squirrels?!? Where?!

It's a classic joke here. And perhaps ironically might make me a trouble-causer! :D

I didn't click the link, because I do not believe in calling people out in the forums. However, I am pretty sure I know who you mean...

Edited to correct auto-correct.

I always get a laugh to see who still falls for this.

I think I'll load the site without images and just vote on the names.

And title my entry "Rikki" or maybe "Rose"

LOL! Got it... :-)

So, let me get this straight: we have a cadre of people here who are convinced it's not possible to judge images objectively when we know who took them, and they're so sure of this that they are going to FLAGRANTLY judge them in a biased way to prove their point? Have I got that right? Any of you guys even consider taking it in the spirit it's intended and just voting on how you actually FEEL about the pictures entered? Sheesh...?

Nah, I don't think so, Bear. I got that those few who feel they can't be unbiased are not going to vote at all. And the rest are just kidding around. But maybe I'm giving too many people too much credit LOL?

The percentage of voters who know who you are and are familiar with your work. let's say 10%.

Of those, the percentage who would dare to think they know your style better than you do. let's say 20%.

We are now down to 2%. And some of those will only dock 1 or 2 points. Maybe slightly higher for the ribbon hogs, but the reason they are ribbon hogs is because they never veer from their style, so don't lose sleep over them.

The challenge is only going to help scores, not hurt them. Voters will be more forgiving of a blurry mess because it happens to be that photographer's style (and they'll probably give the benefit of the doubt if they don't know the photographer).

So you are predicting a higher challenge average than say the May FS?
I'm notoriously bad at predicting what voters would do, but yes.

I suppose this could be taken as an insult either way, but I don't think of you as a ribbon hog. lol

I'll start out with 5 as long as you assign your username to your picture. You've met the challenge! After that, it's whether or not I like your picture. I may like YOU but not your picture. Or I may like your picture, but not you. Either way, I'll offer a vote based on your picture, not you.

That said, I give high scores to a certain genre of picture (once more, with feeling!) and those pictures usually come from certain photographers, and I usually can guess who they are in anonymous challenges anyway, so I don't think my scoring pattern will change all that much. Maybe a bit higher, since there's no DNMC.

Interesting aside - what if someone puts someone else's username? Is this a DQ based on the additional rule??

Of course, I was in Bermuda last week, not knowing what the weekly subjects were until I got back yesterday, and took all of my photos of my "favorite subject" on Wednesday and Thursday. Poop.

Of course, I've been having a lot of fun lately with a new toy, so I suppose I could go that secondary route.

This is a cool challenge! I really hope I find the time to photo what I want to how I want to. 3,5 days left!

What a dust-up!

Just shoot and enter.......or don"t.

Sounds like fun to me.

The main subject that got me into photography is only in town only once a year in the winter.. I am not sure what my style is yet, but I know what I love to shoot and don't.

This will be a fun challenge for me

"Oh, that guy!!! 1"

"Yeah... That chick, 10"

"I hate his guts in forum threads, 1"

"Oh... I know him, he was nice to me in a thread, 10"

"Crappy Nikon user, 1"

"Hell yeah... Nikon brother, 10"

Etc. etc. etc.

Any possibilities, or am I being way too much :-/

That's one thing the SC is going to find out - if anonymity matters or not. If you get incredibly high marks on "bad" images because they know who took it, or if you get incredibly low marks on "good" pictures because of who the photog is, then they'll know how much the person behind the lens matters to voters.
It's true that many of the top ribbon winners have a distinct style and are relatively easy to identify, but how much of their score is influenced by people knowing who it is?
Even if it's not, does it impact YOUR vote? you see an image and your gut reaction is to say "man, awesome pic, that's an eigh......errr... Mike shot that....4."
if that's the case, then it matters.

How many friends do you have that you can get to sign up and vote?

If that's how you're going to vote, you at least need to decide if you like Nikon or not.

Of course there are those among us who say, "I never look at titles when I vote."
For those folk, this should be a voting breeze.
