Perhaps it is similar for some/most, but it has a different feel for me. When I am deciding what to enter for a Free Study I don't necessarily look for something that "defines me as a photographer." I don't know. I am going to try to have fun with it.

I probably will, not sure if I have a known "style" tho, but people often know my face or that of my favorite model.

Y'all gotta admit ONE thing: it's ORIGINAL! We've done nothing like it before. My advice, which I doubt anyone's listening to, is to relax and take it in the light-hearted spirit in which it's intended.

Next time, Bear, maybe put a smiley emoticon in the Challenge description. Then no body will take it seriously. Well maybe nobody will.

I don't understand why people are getting their knickers in a twist. After all, this will tell us nothing. If one of the regular riboners win, will it be because they have a subject and a style that's appreciated, or because they're that person.

Now if the challenge was to do something that you don't normally do, and sign your name, that would tell us more. Then you've taken away their popular style and all that's left is popularity and their skill in an unknown area.

I actually think it sounds like fun!

I think drugs may have been involved.

"I Am The Walrus"

I am he as you are he as you are me
And we are all together
See how they run like pigs from a gun see how they fly
I'm crying

Sitting on a cornflake waiting for the van to come
Corporation tee shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday
Man you been a naughty boy. You let your face grow long
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus, goo goo g' joob

Mister City Policeman sitting, pretty little policemen in a row
See how they fly like Lucy in the sky, see how they run
I'm crying, I'm crying
I'm crying, I'm crying

Yellow matter custard dripping from a dead dog's eye
Crabalocker fishwife pornographic priestess
Boy you been a naughty girl, you let your knickers down
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus, goo goo g' joob

Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun
If the sun don't come
You get a tan from standing in the English rain
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus, goo goo g' joob goo goo goo g' joob

Expert texpert choking smokers
Don't you think the joker laughs at you? (Ho ho ho! He he he! Ha ha ha!)
See how they smile like pigs in a sty, see how they snied
I'm crying

Semolina pilchard climbing up the Eiffel Tower
Elementary penguin singing Hare Krishna
Man you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus, goo goo g' joob goo goo g' joob
Goo goo g' joob goo goo g' joob
Goo gooooooooooo jooba jooba jooba jooba jooba jooba
Jooba jooba
Jooba jooba
Jooba jooba

Would knowing the photographer really cause people to vote either in favour or against someone??? We are not children trying to gain favour with the popular kids for goodness sakes. If you feel that way please don't vote. To the other 99% of people, vote away. I think this will be fun. Obviously not something that should become a regular feature but for a once in a while thing I say bring it on :)

Just so you know, mine will be a still life with eggs as the central subject, coo coo chachoo.
I am not the walrus.

"The words didn't mean a lot. People draw so many conclusions, and it's ridiculous. I've had tongue in cheek all along--all of them had tongue in cheek. Just because other people see depths of whatever in it...What does it really mean, 'I am the Eggman?' It could have been 'The pudding Basin' for all I care. It's not that serious."

John also wanted to make a point about fellow musical icon Bob Dylan, who, according to John, had been "getting away with murder." John said he wanted to show his fans that he "could write that crap too."

"I Am The Walrus," the song with no rhyme or reason, was written in three parts: part one was written by John during an acid trip, part two was written during another acid trip the next week, and part three was "filled in after [he] met Yoko."

Soooo, yup: drugs were involved. Plus a nice poke at Mr.Dylan and the whole "it must be deep stuff because someone famous wrote it". De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you. Kinda Da Da.

I think this is a very good challenge... I don't see any problems with it at all!

Well, I wasn't going to enter because I have neither a distinctive style nor any time just now. But on second thought, I think I will. And whether I get anything I care to put my name under for an entire week or not, I'll surely vote. I think I can be quite objective. I don't much like anyone here.

Just kidding :)

You can speak for yourself and act accordingly, but I'm sure there are lots of people who can be open and objective about this. I know I can.

Sooooo I've been thinking about this...but I'm not sure what I would chose to "define" my photography...

I'd be interested in your thoughts...

I'm all over the board...nothing definitive. (That's sad after this many years!!)

Not sad at all, Ja-9. It just means you are not categorized by any one topic or technique.

You know, you don't HAVE to look at the titles, right?

For anyone that fits this description, it is a Free Study. I count myself in that group.

I've been here so long I frequently know who shot what. If I didn't vote on all the ones I know, I'd never get through a whole challenge! Be it a particular model, a particular processing method, a particular location, many photographers do have a signature style.

I've got something very me, that will score poorly with a few high marks from the weirdos. That's what I do best. :-)
