So I decided to buy a laptop to travel with now instead of my ipad, and I'm trying to install Nik effex onto it, I insert the product key, and my name and I get an error message telling me it's incorrect. I know the conditions state I can have it on two computers at the same time is that correct? Then why isn't it working?

I had it on 2: no probs.

So when you entered your product key, you received no error message?

Nope, no error message.
Did you check their website upon similar complaints/possible solutions?

They will eventually I'm sure. It's a bank holiday after all.

Don't know if it is in US also, but most of the Europeans are free today.
Perhaps there's a motivated soul out there who feels like working today after all :-)
Otherwise by tomorrow you should get some response from them.

I did once use up my licenses due to hard drive failure for Photoshop (I know, not not exactly the same) and had to call them to reset the licenses. The error was that I had used up all my licenses, not that I had entered an incorrect code. If you're having to type it in, are you sure you're typing it in correctly? Os vs 0s, Is vs 1s vs ls, caps, etc... If you're copy/pasting, perhaps there's a space being inserted at the beginning or end?

. I never thought about that I thought they were all numbers and not letters and yes I have checked it about 14,000 million times ;)

You should be copy/pasting the code, not typing it in. You can definitely have it on two computers, and it will give you a specific message that yuou've exceeded your allotment if you try to install it on more than that.

My understanding is that Google moved away from inserting product keys and they are now built into the software on download. If you're needing to put in product keys it's likely an old version. Contact their support and let them know what you're trying to do and they should send you download links.

. I don't understand how copy and paste will work more so than just typing it in, I'm just simply getting the product number from the original packet I got it from ;)

I think I got it about three yrs ago.

Oh btw the product key is being inserted when I try to use The CEP filter through photoshop, I can't get past that stage.

It's a holiday in the U.S. today. I had similar problems when I bought a Mac laptop. Support got it sorted out.

The issue could be something entirely different, and your code could be typed in perfectly.

With that said, if you have an option to copy/paste, you should always do that. It can save you a lot of headache if you read the code wrong, not to mention it's way easier. There have been several times I've been absolutely furious about an invalid code that I knew was right only to discover that I had typed it wrong. They often don't use clearly legible fonts when they print those darn things. I speak from experience, not because I think you're incapable of reading and typing a code in a box.

The most common ones that get me.

O ... 0 ... D ... 8 (I forgot about the D and 8 in my earlier post)
I ... 1 ... l

But like I said, I'm not saying 100% that this is your issue. It very well could be something on their end that is preventing your accurately typed code from working. I'm just offering advice from experience that you can double check while you wait for their response.

Some responsible software developers will include a line such as "The activation key above does not contain the letter 'O' ..."

Three years is definitely before the Google buyout, so just contact them and they'll send you updated install scripts (save those off somewhere in case you ever need to reinstall). I had that issue with HDR Efex - it just wouldn't load up from either PS or LR. Once you have those they will update automatically if there are ever any upgrades/updates. It's totally invisible to the user, so something may have been tweaked causing your issue. Just a guess.

The thing is I can't copy and paste it anyway bc the details are on my desktop and I'm transferring them to my laptop. Unless there's a way to do that I don't know. As far as I'm concerned they are all numerical, there doesn't seem to be any letters in the product key.

Ok dumb question but I can't remember where to find all my stored passwords and codes for my products, now bc of that I can't copy and paste the product key for CEP to be installed, can anyone help?

This might seem weird but when I go to 'all programmes' I can't find CEP or SEP on my desktop, and that's where they are installed, but I can find it on my laptop even though they are not in operation there.
