So this thread is inspired by graphicfunk's recent tribute thread on Anastacia (sp?). She has an average vote received on 6.2 & has not won a ribbon yet. Clearly, IMHO, she is a master & deserves to be in a Masters Challenge. I imagine there are otehrs who also are very good at this craft & should be rightly honoured as the ribbon winners are being honoured. Also, I read that the purpose of the Masters Challenge was to add something new & exciting for those advanced fotogs amongst us in hopes of having something to keep their interests high. SHould we not do this for folks like anastacia? I think so!
Dunno what an average vote should be, maybe 5.6 or 5.8 or something. Other suggestions on this & anything else would be helpful!

Any thoughts on this?

Maybe the next challenge will be for those who have an average score of 6.0 or better.. u never know...

I have a feeling that it's the one and only of it's kind. You have seen what was posted in the forums. I don't think DPC would like to go through it again.

I however wish there were more challenges like that where a group is selected according to a certain criteria. It's a fun thing and as long as we're enjoying it it would be well worth it.
And as for the initial post, I like the idea. But I also think that there should be a minimum number of challeneges entered in that case. Someone might enter just once and get a 6. There could be someone else who entered 2 challenges with scores of 7 & 3 (unlikely though).

I have an idea, just for the fun of it and it could be interesting to see the results also.

Why not put up just one challenge theme and split up in two challenges that would be going on both at the same time, one for women and one for men. This could be going on for just one week or one month and then as a free study challenge even. The results out of it would be very interesting.

Sounds like a fun idea. But how about the people who don't specify their gender when registering? Would they be asked to provide that information or would they be excluded or would they be competing in both?

I do agree with you Rooster that this way you mentioned is more proper than the way it's being done in the current 'masters' challenge.

I came up with an idea something like the following in another thread recently.
Why not take the average score of the best 10-20 scores of the members submissions for the last 6 months prior to the challenge each time and the top 100 members out of that could take part in 'top100' challenges (I don't like using the word masters for this)! I would like to see a challenge like that going on twice a year, free study challenges in February and August each year.

What do you think of this idea?

You need to take in consideration that she only submitted to 29 challenges. I have submitted to 137 challenges. If she were to submit more I am sure she would win a ribbon.

I love her work, BTW.

They should be excluded if they don't provide that information.
Why aren't people providing this information? That should be a must at least when becoming a member.

Well, I don't think it would be fair to exclude anyone for not providing information that was not really required for registration. Maybe it should be a must - then again maybe it was not designed to have male/female competitions. Maybe it was designed to treat everyone equally.
Yes, the challenge does sound good fun but I don't think people really need to provide any information the site already doesn't have just to participate in a challenge.

How about this:
1. Have a Top 100 challenge like Amason said.
2. DCP invites the top 100 photographers with the highest average vote to participate in this challenge.
3. The photographer must have participated in over 60% of the challenges within the last six months to qualify.
4. A free study challenge.
5. Two week or one month challenge.

What does a photographer's gender have to do with photography? If I were looking for a date, then I'd be interested in gender.

Well, I think it can be just as interesting if not more to see if the photographer is a man or a woman than to know what kind of a camera people are using. I like to think that there is a difference in photography between the genders. How we see the world around us is different if we are a male or female, just like it's different how we see the world as children. When viewing people's work, doesn't matter if it is a painting, a photograph or something else, we often try to think what the people that made that were thinking, and if we're trying to put us in their steps it's better if we know the gender of the artist. Right? I hope this answers your question.

This should work even better, and like that there would be less of the stupid brown ribbon tries :-D. Well, who's going to send a line to the admins? :-P

Fair enough, although...

When I was a young man, I managed to have a few of my poems accepted into a women's anthology. Several critics and readers alike noted the gender-specific aspect of my work, much to my amusement.

I get a phone call for Ms. Calvert at least once a week, and was even "nominated" once to some board of "Outstanding Businesswomen." Something about that first name...

So whose team can I be on?

I have a feeling you'd enjoy a mixed team.

how about a challenge for folks who have no won a ribbon yet? This way, at least three people will be ribbon winners at the end of the challenge!

i have one ribbon too but this last suggestion was so those who dont have ribbons can compete t get one. At the end, 3 folks who didnt have ribbons will have a ribbon. The competition will still be tight since lots of folks who are great fotogs dont have ribbons yet, like Anastacia, for example.

it's a nice idea, but it still means that it's 2 challenges i couldn't take part in... (granted i'm not a member anymore, i just have to remember to pay one day..)
