That being said -- so far my flare shot is really quite lame. Don't know if there's time to reshoot.

Ok -- probably a really stupid question, but I always thought that flare was multiple things: the hexagons you get occasionally, the star burst around the light source.

But I'm starting to wonder if flare is the colored patterns and not the star burst. (Yet I still this it is the star burst)

Opinions?

Personally, I will be voting on the amount of flare, since that is what the challenge is about.. something with a strong image but little or no flare will result in lower vote from me.

I have seen a lot of different kinda of flares from images not just a certain star burst around the main sun, some of the most beautiful flares I have seen are not the star bursts but the effects away from it, I think for me, it can be either or burst effect

"only a little lens flare" is still lens flare. If it were my dilemma, I'd choose the better shot since the challenge is fulfilled either way. But, that's just me. :-)

I'm a "choose the shot you like better" person, both in terms of voting and of entering. But every time I do that, I pretty much end up regretting it in terms of score. I do think lots of voters are the "hit me in the face" kind. Still, I'd rather have an entry I like to the end that scores poorly than an entry I don't really like that scores poorly LOL

For whatever it's worth, I tend to do better when, faced with this choice, I enter the stronger image with perhaps a weaker connection to the theme. I think my voting favors a strong image as long as it has a reasonable connection with the theme.

as long as lens flare is visible, it doesn't need to be in your face just present, but to me the image needs to tell a story also!

ETA: I am apparently an idiot. I regularly enter things that I think voters will like only to find, after voting starts, they are thoroughly unimpressed. One very rare occasions I enter images I think voters will find ordinary only to be proven wrong. It's early yet, but voters appear to like this one. Go figure.

Precisely my situation. I was literally rolling around on the ground today trying to capture a little flare - ANY FLARE!

What I ended up with was a less than satisfactory angle of my subject with one tiny, slightly lavender hexagonal flare spot so far away from my subject that it was ludicrous.

Ugh sums it up, Mark.

Not sure why everyone was so worried about their flare ... The images in this challenge are very impressive for me another one which will be hard to choose my favorites

Did not enter but have looked. I have a feeling a perfect "meh" may do just fine in this one. Kudos to everyone who did give it a try -- and enter.

Steadily dropping, got one one comment saying how great it was :/

I really like my shot but its not anything overly special. I wish I had shot my second option.

My super shot is diving below that, no comments, I'm thinking people don't think there's flare in the photo, but there is. I'll cop it on the chin, but I think voting is harsh on this one, wish I could get just one comment to tell me where I went wrong, that's if I did lol!
