| i wouldn't expect anything new for at least a year. The 300D is fairly new and a good seller. Why would canon put a sub 1k 8mp cam on the market right after they released the 20D. |

Hehe, I don't have any secrets, sorry..
I pretty much gave away all of my conjecture - there will be some replacement to the 300D and some point in the future.

It is supposed to be available in Feb 05

I was told by our Canon rep (he does not rep camera gear but still in the fold) that it was slotted to feb 05...but will be delayed untill sept 05... the release of the 300D affected the sales of the 10D dramatically...so they want to cash in on the 20d this time.

I was hoping to get my hand on a 300D for cheaper prices when the new model comes in :-(

Yeah, the costs have really dropped over the last few weeks on used ones! The new ones have dropped a bit as well... |

Well, maybe not a successor, but Olympus anounced today a competitor for the 300D, the E-300 (Evolt). For first time buyers of an entry level dslr system (have no glass from any manufacturer), Olympus offers another option. The Evolt has a slimmer/sleeker design and offers 8MPs. Probably will be priced competatively with the dRebel.

well I've sweetened the pot some, the 300D + batterygrip + 18-55ef-s + 75-300 EF 5.6 + UV haze filters for both lenses + 420EX flash+ Camera Bag: 1500$ CDN, I paid a total 2299$ cdn.
