It started a number of years ago. Sometimes it's hard to put something you feel is "artistic" in a challenge, because you're afraid that it won't be understood by the 2 second voters. So it was an experiment on having an "art" challenge. Where people put in what they think is their most artistic shot of the year. (that hasn't been entered, of course). Curious to see if people and entrants went in with a different mind set that perhaps they have.
It was also a juried challenge -- where a team was picked by the powers that be. They would choose their most artistic choices, discuss, discuss some more, and come up with their own jury awards showing what they thought were the most artistic of the challenge.
It was a lot of fun.

Sounds fun and I'd be up for trying to get the brown on this one too.
I don't think I'd make a good juror, though, all I know about art is that it rhymes with fart. |

But no forums please about what 'art' is thanks, and please keep it to one week submission, pretty sure most people have gone through most of last years images for the 'best of'.

The 2012 announcement didn't include the extra rule about the jury. Maybe there wasn't one.

While I am one that kept the Art of 2014 challenge in mind when looking for a Best of 2014, that might not have been on everyone's mind...
As a side, perhaps I did myself no favours by doing so, as my Best of entry was my lowest ever ranking (% wise)... perhaps I entered it in the wrong challenge... damn dyslexia. |
