I finished my first bridal shoot for my friend (and 99% was shot on manual mode, yea me!). :) I'm pleased with some of the results, but I'd love some critiques, if anyone is just chillin' with nothin' to do. You can pick your favorites, if you want, or you can tell me the fatal flaws of others. (I know light's an issue.) Oh, also, none of these have been adjusted in PS yet.

My 28 favorites are here: Bridal Shot Collection

I took 175 shots total, so I've already weeded out a lot. But any advice you can give would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
Lori

PS Here's a sneak peek!

Thanks, Marj, I really like that one, too... but, does the lens flare bother you at all? I just don't know how "acceptable" it is in wedding portraiture. :) Again, thank you!

Well, yes, you'd need to try to ps it. I'm not sure if you could or not. (Maybe the experts could give you some tips.) I really like the lighting and the pose, though. She looks very natural. The background fence could be cloned out easily. It may be more than you want to do, though and you may not need to use it. You have many nice shots posted. Usually, after I take that many shots, I'm brain dead for awhile and I'll wait a day or so and then look at them all again.

That's some good advice. I'm pretty handy with PS, so I already started cloning out that flare. :) My style's more eclectic, so I like lens flare in a lot of occasions, but I thought it was too distracting here, so thanks for responding. :)

So, following your advice, I'm going to bed! Maybe I'll wake up to pages and pages of comments. ;)

Thanks, Marj, and thanks to everyone who looked at the photos!

In addition to the ones already posted, I really like these two...

What a great job on those! You picked a really pretty spot...I like the foliage and the fountain. My one little nitpick is in the two full-length shots of her standing just a bit too close to what appears to be a trash can. I love the red of the bouquet and her lipstick...very vibrant colors. Great work, Lori! :o)

i know, the trash can... sheesh... i *think* i can clone it out. i've already taken part of it out, it's getting a little tough, though. i was so busy avoiding stray kids in the background that i captured that lovely fixture. :) silly me! thanks so much for your comments (i know i said i was going to bed, and i really am now).

laurie, i took these at the botanic gardens in fort worth (specifically in the rose garden, which was pretty empty of roses except for the pretty bouquet the bride brought). if you haven't been, it's worth a trip. i've always wanted to go in the japanese garden part, but i haven't been there yet.

again, thanks and good night to all!!

Personally, I really liked this one. I tweaked it a bit for you, but I like the pose. They are all pretty nice, but she seems really stiff. Great job for your first attempt! You'll get better every time.

This one is my favorite:

Followed closely by this one:

They both need adjustments but you already know that. Love the composition, the background and her poses. Great work, Lori!

annasense, I think you did a great job on these images, the lighting and composition are very nice. I do agree that you need to tweek some of these in photoshop. I also recommend that you re-position the glare in the eye, to give it a more natural and pleasant look.

THANKS SO MUCH for your advice and opinions. Brian, I love your adjustment to that photo, I am going to attempt something similar for the final product. :) I started working on the levels and curves last night, and I really feel like some of these will work for her. Can't wait to hear what she thinks tomorrow at work! :)

If anyone else wants to comment, I'm all ears! Thanks a million to those that already have. Have I mentioned how much I love this website?? Well, I do! What an great resource!

just a meek bump... :)

Nice Job! Here are a few of the ones that stand out to me:

To me, these are the shots where she looks the most comfortable. A couple of the other shots kinda of felt unnatural for her. These were the ones I felt showed her personality best. The thing I have learned about portrait photography (which is my weakest area still), is that the face and the eyes need to be highlighted with more light than the rest of thne shot.

Overall, I believe you did a fantastic job and I hope the bride is very happy with your fine results. Let us know how it goes! Good luck!

Thanks, Matthew! I'll let everyone know what she thinks tomorrow. :) My fingers are crossed. I know I need to work on the lighting, but just the act of getting out there and trying stuff in different light really did teach me a lot. I think the photos taken later in the shoot are better, because the sun was starting to set and the shadows were much less harsh. I think with a little levels work in PS, they'll look really good. :) Thanks for all your comments. Very helpful!!

I like this one the best. The lighting/ shadows are a bit harsh in some pics. A lot of that should correctable in editing. Good job.

:) Thank you. You're right about the lighting, and I've been playing around with the levels and such, and I've been evening them out a lot. I'm learning! Thanks for the comments!

I really loved and .
But I'm really missing a groom or somebody else in here !! She looks too lonely. It gives me a feeling that she's somehow faking her smile or it's fading away.
Makes me feel a bit sad...

No worries, he'll be at the wedding... ;) These were just shots of the bride-- they'll display one or two at the reception, and she'll have them for her wedding album (but as tradition states, the groom can't see the bride in her gown before the wedding, so that's why he's absent today). There will be a REAL photographer at the wedding... it's just something some of us silly Americans do. Thanks for your comments!!

Just jpeg... I'm afraid of RAW... don't know enough about it. :)

Me either, I just know that the 8080 can do both at once, so I was curious.
