I could do that, but it would probably also help to set some of the in-camera editing features. It's just not worth it to me to learn how to shoot a good jpg when I will never need to do that in the "real world". However, I wish good luck to those who like the rule set and will be entering.

1. It seems to me it's almost always worthwhile to learn something.

2. Any improvement you can make in your initial captures will get you that much closer to the final product. It's easier to edit a good capture than a poor one.

3. In the "real world" I have twice shot photos for a charity golf tournament. These were then downloaded directly into a slideshow program, and displayed during the awards luncheon immediately following the tournament -- no time for any editing other than choosing which shots to include. This would not have been possible with a RAW-dependent workflow.

4. What exactly have you got to lose by entering something?

All the photos I shot for the newspaper back in the day were in JPG mode. With a 4MP camera at that. Of course the resolution they end up being printed at, even at full color and pretty big, is very forgiving.

I usually do shoot RAW in case I come back with a photo which I feel calls for some aggressive editing since those tend to hold up better than JPG, but I'm excited for this minimal editing challenge.

It's just that - a challenge.

I just posted this as a reminder thread since some of the other "reminders" were buried in other threads.

I agree that the better an image is to start with, the easier it is to process. The key word there is "process". There are times when I am very close to my desired result straight from the camera (even in RAW), but I have never had a photo that was not made better by at least a little processing. I've done minimal challenges before, and then processed the image to show what it can look like.

Learning is good. I'm not saying I wouldn't learn anything from this challenge. What I don't want to have to learn is how to change the settings to process jpg in-camera to get a better result. I am also not saying these challenges should never happen, because there are many members who enjoy them.

It always makes me smileĆ¢€Ā¦ Technology-induced laziness, or "I'll Fix That In Photoshop".

What makes me frown is that some people think that photoshop is only used to "fix" stuff. judging by the quality i see here, that statement is probably correct.

so yeah, lets continue to foster that sentiment instead of encouraging each other to properly use all the tools at our disposal.

I think, what we have, is a difference of opinion in what people like done when post processings.

Sometimes, yes, people can be lazy in camera and want photoshop to do all the work...let's remember it's the original photographer that makes the shot and not the post processing. But, just because someone likes to pp and thinks their work is better doesn't mean they're lazy. Like Mike. His photos are beautiful!

But that doesn't mean everyone is lazy if they don't pp. And just because you're pro anti-pp doesn't mean everyone should be. It's all based on personal opinion and taste. Some people have beautiful photos right out of the camera! And they love it because it's their own style. I mean...look what macwilyum or hesitant did in our minimal challenge for Architecture VII. They're brilliant!

unfortunately my style breaks all the rules while those who prefer a minimalistic approach dont break any.

the editing rules are supposed to equal the playing field yet they play a more exclusionary role.

Can't we upload directly from our phone?

OMG I just did. I had no idea. This changes everything!

Definitely. I'm lazy. Too lazy to use a real camera. Too lazy to PP.

But phooey. Looked fine from my iphone, but on my pc screen it needs a rotation. Must go re-shoot so it doesn't need a rotation. BRB.
