We're going to Canada soon and I was wondering if there's a better option than paying roaming charges on our cell phone. My wife has Verizon and I have T-Mobile. We'll be in Nova Scotia.

My phone uses a Micro-sim for t-mobile. Can you just get a local pay as you go phone account and put in a micro sim for that? If so, where would I get one.

My wife's phone is an iPhone with Verizon. Not sure if that uses a SIM card...Verizon didn't in the old days anyway...

Thanks in advance

My son travels to Toronto, and does something with his phone so he can use it up there. It has to be done before he leaves the States and it costs him about $5.00. I will ask the details tomorrow and post back.

Contact your cell phone provider(s) and ask them. When I'm going to Canada, I'll add Canada to my calling plan and it costs about $5/mo. If you don't, it's beastly expensive. I've made calls from N. Michigan that have gone to Canadian cell towers and the bill was breathtaking in a bad way.

We have Verizon. When I recently went out of the country for six weeks, I went to Verizon site and clicked on the Global button for the phones I wanted to be able to use.

There was one for data... ($30) and one for calling ($5). You can get both for $25.

They take you through a questionnaire... asking what countries you'll be going to and they recommend something for you.

I don't know about T-Mobile.

Have a great time!!

Good grief...one of them schmanzy fanzy mericans tinks we gots dem dere hi falooting fones up here in canada. Drop in an sea me... I will sho yew hows to make dem dere smoke cignals.

Not a clue my friend, but my daughter visits Philidelphia on a regular basis to visit her beau and I get her a "Roaming Plan" from her service provide for $25 additional dollars.

You might consider going to the Verizon web site and look Here as it seems to guide you through the process.

Good luck and have a great trip.

Thanks everyone.

For my t-mobile, they say it will work...it's just .59 per minute. I have pre-paid, and no data services.

For my wife's verizon, it's .89 per minute pay as you go. It may be worth it for her at least to get the Global plan, assuming she can add it to her prepaid plan. We'll see what she wants to do.

My son has a Verizon phone, so I think you have the right info already.

Most plans will let you add another country for a month or two at really reasonable prices.
