I'd bet dollars to cocktail weenies that it was 18K Gold-PLATED. I could be wrong... |
I may very well be mistaken about the carat count, but for what I paid for this thing (many years ago I might add)... I seriously doubt it is "gold plated".
Why would I purchase a gold toothpick you ask... simple, my wife, her sister and mother told me that it would be unlikely that I could purchase any kind of jewelfy for their father/husband since he apparently had "EVERYTHING".
I checked and he did not have a gold toothpick so...I had one made at a local jeweller manufacturer.
Maybe Snaffles knows the name... it was (is) called Howard's Fine Jewellers in Ottawa.

My apologies. I can't compete. I thought I had a fancy little jar of toothpicks but I can't find it and it's too late to go and buy some.

Well I know then I can't be worse than 38, unless some pecker head entered in the next 30 mins |

That's okay, Marion. Didn't mean to make anyone feel bad :)
Maybe I'll finish in the top 10 and all will be well LOL |

Blah challenge topic (to most people) and end of TPL (many need a break) = low number of entries. Not to fret! We'll see more in Vanishing Point and HJDR V I wager... |

WOW! That's a great group of creative images in the gallery!
I'm VERY impressed!
So many different and excellent takes on the topic!

Totally agree! Amazing creativity and skills shown. It's a picture-perfect illustration of how so-called "blah" topics can spark genuinely interesting imagery. |

I have voted but haven't bumped, but I had the same reaction as Lydia and Bear. Lots of great takes on the topic.
But I still wish there were more entries :) |

A lot of people do find these challenges boring or stupid but I think it can bring out the creativity that people sometimes forget they have. Sometimes these challenges work and sometimes not so much, but in this case I think most did well. I mean where else in the world would you find images like these or even thought about taking that picture if it weren't for a shooting for these challenges. Sorry for the rant but I think a lot of people take this site for granted and forget some of their best shots came from shooting challenges which may have been a missed opportunities otherwise. Ok people back to work :) |

+1
I was pleasantly surprised voting on this one. Lots of top notch creativity. Like a 95% quality to crap ratio. You don't even get near that in a Free Study. :P

Couldn't find a thread for the voting on this so here it is..
You have rated 40 of 40 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 40 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 7.0500.
I've voted and commented on all! When I got to the last one, I found myself thinking "THAT'S IT!?" I wanted to look at more!! I have to say, I am highly impressed with this one as well.. It's probably been the challenge in which I've voted the highest.. Not one vote from me was under 6. Good job to all participants! |

Thanks for the comment. Since the challenge idea was yours, I tried to be creative! Wish I could get your vote as well:) |

If I voted on yours, when I couldn't vote on everyone's ... that would skew the voting and I'm all about fairness.
I know you've complained to me several times before about "only" commenting on your images... but I don't see a way around the issue. If I could know ahead of time which was yours, I would never comment without voting on your images.

Hey Lydia ... I don't understand this. I'm not staking a claim on either side of this, but I am curious.
This part: "If I voted on yours, when I couldn't vote on everyone's ... that would skew the voting and I'm all about fairness."
Why can't you vote on everyone's? |

While in TPL, I could not vote on my teammates' images. If I'm entered in a challenge, I can't vote on my own.

Nobody can vote on their own image. So that's the reason you don't vote on challenges you enter? |

Yes. If I can't vote on every image in a challenge, then it skews the votes. Not by much... but it skews them.
For example, my starting vote is a six... I go up from there... but rarely do I give lower than a six. [ETA: But I DO give lower than a six, sometimes several fives and a four or two in a challenge... depending on the entries] My voting average is 5.8xx.
Your voting average is 5.2 and glad2badad's is 5.0. If I vote highly on your image... because that's where I start... but you vote your voting pattern on mine... I've cheated myself. Just like if someone else starts his minimum vote at eight, and he votes on mine, but not his own... he's cheated himself. I don't want that either.
Many people do this for the same reason I do. It skews the votes to do otherwise.
Regardless... I comment on all images that I can... whether I've entered or not.

I can also argue that it skews the voting average by not voting on any images.
But to each his or her own. No big deal :) |

When you put it that way, I can see that I cheat myself on a regular basis. Funny thing is I have been living with that anomaly by regarding my votes given as belonging to a totally different scale to that which I expect or accept for my votes received. I am always very happy whenever I wind up with a 6+ score, but my average vote given is over 6.5 (and seems to be rising).

But what if everyone did that? If nobody voted because they entered the challenge .... just think about that for a moment. Like I said, we are all in the same boat. I can't vote on my own entries either. My average vote given is what it is because I DO vote on every image -
My guess is I probably give just as many 7s 8s and 9s as you do.
It's not that I don't appreciate your comments but I don't "get" the no vote part. If I like your image you get a 7 or better from me, if you like my image I get commenting only from you. Tell me how that's fair.

We all have our quirks in life. This is what I do regarding voting.
We are all free to do what we like regarding it.
I don't have to say that I'm commenting only... and none of this discussion would happen. I'm not ashamed of what I do... but I don't like getting emails from people who mistake that my "glowing" comment was accompanied by the low vote the next person gave them and didn't comment.
So... I say it.
Voting is anonymous.
Commenting should be, too... I suppose.
Actually, I think that people's votes should be revealed after voting is over, the way anonymous comments are. That would change things up a bit!
:D

I would have no problem with showing my votes.
And you are free to do what you like regarding voting.
Enough said from me. |

Back to the toothpicks.
I voted on all and commented some. Anybody care to join me?
I have only 64 votes and there's just 3 hours and change to go. |
