Actually, I tend to flip through all the blending modes to see which one is just right. |
Since I average something like 4-12 variations per original I'd say I tend to find more than one of them "just right" ... ;-) |

I don't average quite as many as that, but I often find a few variations that I like. Of all the blending modes I like Difference least because the images tend to get a bit too complicated for my liking. It depends on the original though.

So I was keeping up on this thread at work today (don't tell anyone haha) and could not wait to get home and try it out! Woohooo! Have already been playing and how fun! I love it! |

I had a go at this and it was actually much simpler and way more fun than anticipated! Now I have a problem, though... how do I choose just ONE entry for the challenge?! :-) |

I love it. People trying this out use the words FUN, play & easy, & the hard part is picking out just one favorite. I feel the same way. |

FYI to all, because I missed it originally. You can only use a single source photo for this challenge. |

Still five days to go and I've already got more possible entries than I know what to do with. This has never happened to me before.

Are there rules to this challenge? Does it have to be left as flipped, blended, etc, or can I mask out parts when I've flipped so many times, that I only want certain parts? |

As I read it, we can flip, blend, squoosh (squoosh?) as much as we want. Just one original, though. |

One original.
Flip/Warp/Blend
Crop as you wish.
That's my take.
It tends to create new detail at an alarming rate, so try a very plain original to begin.
If you crop first, pay attention to the center of your crop--everything revolves around that point.

It's possible to tell a story effectively with one photo by using the (subjects) of the composition. What keeps me interested in flip'n'blend is that it is possible to tell or evoke a story by only using the elements of composition--line, shape, & tone. Kind of like Hemingway's six-word story.

Ah, but Langdon unleashed a lot more with the description:
Use one original in as many layers as you like by flipping/rotating/warping/blending create a fascinating abstract.
This will be such a fun Challenge to view when all the entries come in. |

Does the original photo have to be taken within the time frame or can you use any old photo that you have? |

half the fun, Ja-9 is that there is no 'best.' Sometimes a square crop is good, sometimes not.
