The only requirement: a 10-second exposure. Anything longer, or shorter, gets you an instant DQ.

Instant, and DPC, in the same thought.... That's so cute!

Though I do like the idea of a 10 second challenge. Just never seen the powers that be move that fast. ;-)

l seem to recall other challenges that were that specific and there were glaring examples where people did not adhere to the rules... and you know what happened.

NOTHING... that's what happened.

Is there a way to "police" this? Or is it just the "honor" system...Can SC "see behind the great curtain of OZ"?

There was one challenge where the time requirement was not made an "extra rule" which would make failure to adhere a DQ-asble offense, so under the rules "nothing could be done" in that case ... however since then there have been time-specific challenges where such a rule has been in place, and it is "enforceable" by the normal validation procedures.

My only concern with time-specific challenges is that they not be so extreme as to exclude a significant number of members because of hardware limitations -- most non-dSLR cameras have a maximum exposure of 10-15 seconds, and no "bulb" option -- it's not a problem (for me) for this particular suggestion.

I know it's not my original suggestion BUT could we say 10 second or more??? Minimum 10 second exposure.

I'm in, if it gets put up as a challenge! You can get an awful lot done in 10 seconds.

I remember what was a "steps" challenge or something. Take this many steps from your front door, and people didn't adhere to that one either. People in general suck about following rules when there are no consequences. There was also a winner in a night photo challenge or something.

Sounds good, I like the 10 seconds no more no less.

If it can't be found in EXIF data, then it isn't enforceable, but 10 seconds is. So despite the fact that some folks don't have a camera that can do this, we should do this.

The question is, is it more fair to do this as an open or members challenge ? I would think open would include more people who lack the ability, but I may well be wrong.

This sounds really challenging, although I guess that is the point. I'm in!

10 seconds is a long enough time that you have to know what you're doing with your camera to get a good one. IMO.

As far as I'm aware, that are tons of P&S cameras that can do a max of 15 seconds, so I think we would only be excluding a very very tiny minority of our membership.

Considering the countless American challenges that more or less exclude a LOT of members, this is a very tiny problem.
