Please, for the non-native speakers - is Awwwwww expressing appreciation or rejection or something else?

I must admit that I don't understand at all what this challenge is about ...

I the US, when something is impossibly cute, sweet, tender, or adorable, it causes many of us to say "awwwwwwww". Interpret as you wish :)

I would say appreciation. Think cute things/stuff/people that makes you feel delightful (i.e kittens, babies, puppies). Of course, this is my own interpretation..

Just to clear things up a little bit in the US this is what WOMEN say when they see cute things.

I say it, but not at cats or kittens (in case you were thinking of entering a feline photo). ;-)

I work with group in Switzerland and so I asked "Do you happen to know what is the equivalent expression in Swiss or German culture? You know, when you see a cute picture of a puppy or a kitten and you go awwwwww."

The answer:
"Hmmm – not sure if there really is one — I would say something like "Ach, das ist so süss" So, "ach" followed by a statement would sort of be the awww - //en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ach. But it could also mean you are pissed off – so the words that follow are important :)"
