I know. I got a great shot, but also shot in raw, so I'm out. |

Grrrr... I think they should allow RAW -- just unedited RAW. It's easy to check to see if anything was done to it. It is possible, afterall, to just open it without editing.
Of course, the jpeg processing would have been helpful. :) |

Hopefully she had a tripod, of course had she not shot while in the RAW she might have been warmer. |

Now you tell me!! And people wouldn't have been laughing so hard, then... |

Sorry to hear it. Not too late to get your blur on, though.
Someone called attention to it in the announcement thread when I happened to be looking, so I got lucky (with the jpg part, not the shot). |

Oh Wendy, shame!
You've done that before, lol, don't you read the instructions?
So are you in?
I was the first one in, but I changed it last night, I think I love this one more, can't wait to see all the images, rock on blur!

Change your camera NOW to always shoot RAW plus a small jpeg. Always. Takes no space at all compared to your RAW files, and all you'll use the jpeg for is DPC minimal edit challenges. You'll still have the full RAW for everything else. (I think Bear taught me this, ages ago!) |

I think sometime ages ago I set mine up like that for this reason, but ran into the problem of the double import taking up too much space on my ancient computer. I had to keep going back and deleting a bunch of jpegs so I stopped doing it. |

Aw man, I did the same thing, shot RAW only. And with a very skittish bunch of subjects...damn damn damn. Problem is Advanced is now the norm, so easy to just slip into that mindset :-( not entering. |

If the RAW file is still on the card, is it possible to edit it in camera and save as JPEG in camera? Would that file be legal for DPC minimal? |

An interesting question. Just my opinion, but I believe that might actually work! |

How do you do that? |

It can't be done with a 40D, but some newer models have in-camera processing. I did a quick file check on mine and the dates didn't appear to change, so it would seem be just like shooting RAW+JPEG from the start. |

Well I'm in and since I was one of the few who pays attention, I have a good shot at winning!
Blurry? Check. Mess? Check. JPG? Check. Slam. dunk.

Except I'd think you are still getting to change the RAW->JPEG settings after pressing the shutter, offering the opportunity to adjust the settings based on the capture. I don't see why post-processing on your camera should be any different (with regard to DPC rules) than post-processing on any other computer/device. |

Paul, I agree it is a can of worms, but how can you tell the difference from the file the camera would generate?! Or this would be just an uncheckable requirement based on honor? Of course, in my opinion, the minimal ruleset is a useless exercise in self-shackling anyway, I think basic would've worked just fine.

I shot JPEG and did not violate any minimal editing rules.
Tonight, in response to this thread, I found this video tutorial. //youtu.be/v6IIjtxK7gw
I don't know if the EXIF file is changed. Must be some way to detect this in-camera processing. |

File-wise it's exactly the same thing as adjusting camera settings before you press the shutter, so our opinions are moot. |

Maybe in cases like this one can submit both RAW and the in-camera derived JPEG? one should probably be able to see in EXIF that none of the "basic" parameters were changed ("Use shot settings" option in that video) |

Possibly ΓΆ€” I am not all that familiar with the latest NSA-quality forensic tools myself ... but our whole system is based on honor anyway, since that's the only reward. If people want to win a virtual ribbon by cheating, then they'll just have to live with their conscience, and know that they are less than they appear ... |
