Here are some shots I took several months ago and have been meaning to U/L.
Are these some kind of tulip? Poppies?
What are these called?
Except for the last two, they are all cropped, have some level and/or shadow/highlight adjustments, and have some wide and narrow radius USM. The last two are just resized.
Please let me know what you think of these shots. And, if you know what these flowers are called, please let me know that too. :)
Thanks,
Ara

Nice shots, Ara.
The fourth red flower shot is my favourite. Really crisp shot and interesting composition. I also like the dark background.
Not quite sure about the second red shot - think the white flowers distract the eye too much? Also in the first shot there's a great deal of interest in the shot, but the flowers in focus seem a little separated from the rest of the shot due to DOF.
All in all - really nice work though. Oh, and I've no idea about flower IDs, sorry. :-)

Nice shots....the first 5 shots are all tulips, and your last two are called bleeding hearts. They're a perennial flower, but the tulips are bulbs. Once again, nice work. |

Thanks Paul! Dave thanks for the info. But is it a new variety of tulip? I've never noticed the pointy petals before.

I don't think that the pointy petals are very new. This variaty is not even that extreme. 14 years ago when I worked on the tulip fields we used to pick these kind out of the 'normal' ones because they were unwanted. Nowadays the special variaties are very popular.
You should ask the owner what kind it is, because there are several thousands of varieties sold today (out of 100.000 ever created) and many look alike. This red one looks a lot like a crossing of 'Ballerina' and 'Synaeda Orange' but is neither. :)

Darlene - Thanks! :)
Sander - Thanks!
But it will be hard to ask the owner since they're in a public park. :) I'll ask the next time I see someone tending the flowers there.
