Listened to a couple songs on YouTube, might not be my cup of tea, but the song titles look like fun subjects :)

Ooo, there's a name I haven't heard in awhile. I never explored the band much, but know of them because of their association with Dead Can Dance (my personal fave on the "surreal side"), This Mortal Coil, etc. I love her voice. It's an odd suggestion for a challenge, because they're relatively unknown to so many. They do have quite the list of song titles to choose from though. I'd be game for trying.

Ahh Dead Can Dance...probably my favorite band of all time, also got to finally see them live at Berkely a couple of years ago. :)

I was a pretty big fan of Cocteau Twins as well (and pretty much all of the artists on the 4ad label.) I loved Denise Fraser's voice. This would be an awesome challenge.

Wasn't it Elizabeth Fraser?

I have all three of the This Mortal Coil albums. Filigree and Shadow is amazing .

Cocteau Twins one of my favorite bands for many years - saw them in Boston on the same weekend I saw Dead Can Dance in Boston. Two fantastic shows although DCD was much better IMO...live anyway. This Mortal Coil albums are great collaborations and a lot of really good stuff if you are into the type. 4AD had some great artists.

yes, Elizabeth Fraser and Robin Guthrie with Simon Raymonde.

We are clearly people of a certain vintage!

Ah yes what a band! Big fan, for sure.

This would be great.

Oh darn, you're right. My memory isn't as good as I thought. Well, good excuse to bump this anyway.

Four calendar cafe was on heavy rotation (in my old 5 disc changer that I bought from a pawn shop in 1989 for 160 bucks.)

Love the outrageously lush guitar sound mixed with otherworldly could be a foreign language sounding vocal.

In undergrad, that changer had Pixies, "tromp le monde", Pogues, "if I should fall from grace with god," Buffalo tom "let me come over," and RHCP- "blood sugar sex magic," etc. also in heavy rotation.

Sorry for the ramble, would be a good challenge.

All her vocals were in English. It was the way she sang.

I'm aware it's English, the affect just sounds French-Norwegian at times.

I always preferred Harriet Wheeler from the Sundays. Her voice is pure powdery velvet.
