Geeze... And if you go to the end of the piece and click on the link "Everything is Broken" to ANOTHER award-winning shot of the same dead child, you'll see that some elements of the image are REARRANGED! Did the police tuck that under her arm so it looks more justifiable that they shot her? Did the second photographer move the piece for a better composition? Who knows... |

that shot you refer to was taken a bit after the first (you can tell by the length of the blood trail). i doubt if the second photog recomposed the shot physically. it looks more like her body had been rolled over and maybe back, more like a 3rd world csi where forensics is more on-the-fly than science.
as to exploitation, to me, that is more up to the image publishers than the photographers. ethically and professionally, all we can do is take the images, documenting the world before us. how those images get used are largely beyond our control. |

Her body was looted apparently. By the time her father carried her away, she didn't even have a shirt on anymore. Google her name in Google images (if you can stand it). |

What we have here are two photographs. They both lie, as photographs tend to do, and they both contain a truth. |

These sort of images remind me of the duality of the universe. The image of the pack of photographers may remind us of vultures eyeing dinner, but they also bring attention (and aid) to situations we might not have otherwise known about. They simultaneous dehumanize and humanize. |

Celebrity news magazines are very popular, yet everybody professes to despise the paparazzi.
