This is kinda cool (I have nothing to do with the company). You get to build components to make a digital camera including some extras like a crank to wind up if the battery has not juice (more for the education). I'm planning to give to a teen that is keen on electronics but this crowd might like it themselves :-)

Listened to the BBC interview with Columbia University computer science professor Shree Nayar, the inventor. Fascinating. I like the crank-for-power option.

There was another excellent interview with him today on Science Friday on NPR. Note that it is intended primarily as a teaching tool for physics and electronics; that it functions as a working camera afterward is the bonus which helps engage kids in learning.
