Just a simple personal story hardware related, so if you're up to it keep reading. You have been warned!
I've sold a few hardware pieces to save money to a new camera. I had a very ond Nikon D300, a D700 and a noe year D5100 that I bough just for video (here's the link of my video channelif anyone is curious enough to see my face: Video channel)
I sold the D300, one tripod, had some money from stock and a few days I had an offer on the D5100. Plus in the summer I had a wedding and the D300 was in to service and I had to take the D5100 as my backup for the D700 to the wedding. I had the 70-200 f2.8 VR on it and when I was editing the photos I could spot all the photos from it, just not sharp enough, not the same color rendering, etc. So I wasn't very prone in to using it for photos (pro clients I mean, even if just as a backup) again, and another job apeared, and in two weeks I have to do a baptism.
So I went and spoke with my wife, a conversation that I had benn preparing in my mind for quite some while, and had been avoiding as I was trying to colect more money from stock.
I said that I was looking in to the D610, that this was "enough" for me though it wasn't in the same "league" as the D700. Se asked me why and what was the alternative, and was all the way supportive to get the D800.
So I took the plundge and placed an order on the D800 today! And I will just be suffering from antecipation untill next monday when it arrives, like a small kid waiting to Christmas eve to open the gifts. My wife was awsome and really supportive.
Just my story...Had to share.

Congrats! My wife got me one for Christmas last year, and it took 7-8 other family members chipping in as their present to get it to me. I told her for many months that I wanted it but I was convinced it wasn't happening until I tore off the wrapping paper. I've loved it, and you won't be disappointed! That, plus your primo 70-200 is a nice combination too! |

Thank's Rob. Hope so. A day ago I hold the D600 and D800 im my hand and that was the decisive momento that I knew I was going for the D800. And ergonomically it makes more sense with the D700, and I don't have to think that mich when I have both mounted at the same time in weddings and other jobs.

First, congratulations on your new gear!
Second, my D300s is a little upset that you've called him old.
Third, my husband's D80 is irate, but I told him, "Pipe down geezer!"
Forth, I love the season of photographers convincing loved ones to allow them to buy new gear.
Fifth, I love the excitement that comes through the text as ya'll wait for your new gear.
Sixth, I apologize for posting this way. It's cold outside and my brain is still sputtering to life. |
