At least someone shows his/her love sending PMs here:
Hello My Beloved One .
I greet you with the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, It is true that this letter may come to you as a surprise. Nevertheless, I humbly ask you to give me your attention and hear me well.
My name is Mrs Elizabeth Johnson from Germany. I was brought up from a motherless babies home in my country and was married to my late husband Dr. Abelerd Johnson who worked with our Embassy here in South Africa for a period of 8years before he died. We were married for 22 years without a child before he died in a fatal car accident. Since his death I decided not to remarry due to my religious belief .I am 59 years old, and am suffering from a long time cancer of the breast which also affected my brain from all indication my conditions is really deteriorating and it is quite obvious that, according to my doctors they have advised me that i may not live for the next two months this is because the cancer stage has gotten to a very bad stage
When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of US$5.6m(Five Million Six Hundred United State American dollars ) with a Bank here in South Africa. Presently this money is still in the custody of the Bank in South Africa. Recently, my Doctor told me that I would not last for the next two months due to cancer illness.
Having known my condition I decided to donate this money to Churches, organizations or good person that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein.
I want you to use this money for Churches, Charity organizations, orphanages, widows and other people that are in need. l took this decision because I don't have any child that will inherit this money . Moreover, my husband relatives are not close to me since I develop a Cancer problem and it had been their wish to see me dead in order to inherit his wealth since we have no Child. These people are not worthy of this inheritance. This is why I am taking this decision.
I don't need any telephone communication in this regard because of my ill-health. As soon as I receive your reply I will give you the contact of the Bank in South Africa where this money is deposited. I will also issue a letter of authorization to the bank that will prove you the present beneficiary of this money. I also want you to always put me in prayer.
Please reply to me at my email address at (elizabethjohnson054@hotmail.com)
Any delay in your reply may give me room to look for another good person for this same purpose. Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I stated herein.
Hoping to receive your response soonest at my private email address at
(elizabethjohnson054@hotmail.com)
Thanks and Remain blessed
yours sister in the Lord,
Mrs Elizabeth Johnson |

Just a rational suggestion: The site should prevent new accounts, which sign up using a hotmail email address, from sending PMs or posting in the forum for a month or longer. We deserve some protection from this spamming behavior. Of course, nothing is going to change. |

I didn't get this message but that's probably because they knew that I know there is no such bank as the Bank of South Africa |

Bank in South Africa, not Bank of South Africa. They're usually smart enough not to list any agency that you can validate. |

That would be a terrible way to welcome a legitimate new member to the site. What keeps us around is the community, so preventing new members from introducing themselves to that community would be a bad idea. I also wouldn't be terribly surprised if people have also had photos purchased through the PM system from a new user that just wants to get in contact with the photographer to request the purchase of a photo they saw on the site. I'm sure there's lots of other great reasons to leave things as they are. |

I don't believe we should put restrictions on who can sign up dependent upon their email address. My step father uses hotmail and so do some others I know simply because it's the account they've had the longest. Also, as for prevent sending PMs or posting in the forum for a month or longer, that is also not fair to others. Why would anyone want to participate if they couldn't to begin with? Perhaps I was reading your response wrong, hahn23?
Also, I think that most (if not all) of us know that this was spam. With the vast amount of identity theft going around, and these "I've got such and such amount of money in some bank for this reason", we SHOULD all know it's fake. ESPECIALLY with such a large amount of money.
I just ignored it. Not worth my time to even read the entire letter.

It happens so rarely, I've had maybe one spam in a year. Not too difficult to delete it and move on with your life. Restricting new users is not the answer. |

I got as far as the "I greet you with the name of our Lord Jesus Christ" and then automatically knew it was not from someone who actually knew me.
Being familiar with the scriptures, I also know that I would have to divest myself of my riches so I opted to delete the message.

She missed me this time around. It is rather un fathomable that people still fall for this nonsense.
Richard, it IS vexing, but harmless. You have all the power in just one keystroke. Any PM from a stranger with "beloved" in the subject gets deleted automatically. |

Please use the tools provided to report bad behavior and do not respond yourself in a "spam thread" or create a new one. If you want to discuss spam prevention, well, there's already a thread for that.
Spam Prevention Administrative Announcement thread.
Originally posted by langdon: Despite our best efforts, spam has become a regular occurrence here in the forums of DPC. We are trying a few different things to stifle future spam posts and have implemented a number of features to prevent it. However, there is unfortunately nothing that's going to completely stop real people from signing up, confirming their email address, and posting some garbage that none of us want to see.
I just wanted to make a quick announcement to explain a new feature that will let you guys help us fight the good fight and participate in the war against spam. On the bottom left of each post, you will see a link to "Report this post as spam". This will serve as a quicker method of purging spam from our forums.
I wanted to make this specific announcement to also ask that you please use this feature diligently. Since posts/threads will automatically be hidden at a certain threshold, this puts the power to hide content in the hands of our users. The use of this feature will be monitored, so please use it only as necessary.
Thanks,
Langdon |

Sorry, there are more Nigerians in South Africa than in Nigeria itself. They took over the underworld of prostitution, drugs gunrunning , hijacking and what ever. I will NOT trust anything coming from AFRICA, the dark Continent. Maybe I should shut up, seeing I will have to go die there soon enough.

We really do need a "report spam" option in the PMs. I read the PM on my phone, and it was too difficult to go and report it. When I saw it in the forum, I brought up the fact that I got it in a PM and then I was going to click the SPAM button and forgot.
But it would be nice to have an easy way to report PM spams. |

It could be a generic "Report PM" button ΓΆ€” that way it would cover both spam from strangers and abusive/inappropriate notes from members; maybe it could just automatically create a ticket ... |

Yes -- that would work. Some sort of reporting feature would be quite nice. :)
