It's a useful exercise to write a manifesto. Write it in words, and then express it in photography. I enjoy reading/viewing such manifestos of other people. Mine is a work in progress, in my blog. Thanks! |

A very interesting read, some good insight made about the art side of photography vs. the technology side. They are often blurred at DPC. |

Thanks. I enjoyed hearing John Sexton compare the nuances of black and white photography to the intangible sounds of a great piece of music, among other things.

I enjoyed the video far more than the silly article.
Thanks John! |

ROFL.. Re-reading that, you might think that was my position... :) It was not, simply a pun, nothing more. |

"I think the way people experience art is rapidly changing today unlike any other time in history. We are a society of gadget users that look at just about everything on a flat high resolution screen versus experiencing it. While on one hand thousands or possibly millions of people could view your work, getting them to experience it in person is not very likely based on the trends today. How is the web, social media and technology impacting and changing art? With the mass consumption of visual media every day by people, are they becoming less sensitive to art?"
Okay...maybe "silly" is a bit harsh. However, I do not feel closer to the experience or the truth, and this silly article doesn't bring me any closer to it...*pout*
Is it out there AND independent of technology?
This article didn't made me feel either better or worse. ;-/

I think the article stated much of what many of us feel (and that's ok). I have to agree with most of his comments.
However I found the video to be very inspiring. John Sexton has a very fluid, intelligent way of putting "words to the music" so to speak. I saved this video and will watch it from time to time.

As long as we are on the subject of "silliness."
Squirting paint through eyes to make art.
better than some of the alternatives I guess. |

Bear's right you know... Instead try a different orifice. I'd suggest trying the ear first as that's sorta connected to the air-works... Otherwise you may need to move on into less pleasant territory if you wish to be truly creative. |
