Was in a restaurant with family, waitress brought 4 glasses of wine with a bottle to the table. As she put the first glass down next to me, her whole tray with glasses and bottle of wine came crashing down. My Canon 1Dm4 with Tamron 24-70 lens (With filter on front) got somewhat splashed on the side. I wiped it off as fast as I could. Should I be worried? It's dried, it's working...but I don't know about next month? Bring it to Canon?
Restaurant said any damage they would pay, but the whole process is just...time consuming. I was worried about the flash contacts, but after getting home I popped a flash on and it was working. Had it been water, I might not be so worried...had it been a different lens, maybe the same. I'm not sure how 'resistant' the lens is to liquids... |

That's a good excuse to send the gear to Canon for a tuneup. I'd take advantage of it. |

Def, free tune up... go for it, you never know what might have been getting ready to go anyhow.. and Hey how about asking the restaurant to pay for a rental camera n lense while yours is down? I'm sure they'd be much happier than paying in a lawsuit for totally new equipment. |

its their fault - i think you should probably make sure nothings wrong via a canon tune-up - the process usually takes 3-4 days in the states , i d only press for rental if you really need it. They're a business too, and we're all people. Ofcourse i imagine you're well within your rights. |

I felt sorry for the young lady that served us. She was 'posted' at the cashier for the rest of the evening. She actually went out, found a shop that had lens cleaner cloth, bought some so that I could clean my filter. I made sure she knew that it was only gear and that people make mistakes and that nobody should get fired or anything, just to learn from the mistake. At the same time I said that had it been a cheaper camera/lens I wouldn't have said or asked anything if it was working then and there, but since it's as expensive as it is, I needed to get it checked out. My family arrived yesterday and this was our first day out...I'm playing vacation photographer. I'll probably bring it in Monday and use my RX100 until things get properly checked out. What sucks is I just had them clean it 2 weeks ago... |

Good on you... The world would be a much better place if more people adopted this approach to life.
I am very impressed.

Canon wants to open up my camera, minimum cost is 120USD but if anything is damaged the price goes up. Tamron wants 170USD to open up the camera. The price won't go up but if it's FUBAR then the only thing left is to buy a news lens. So they are both going in to get 'tested' and I hope that nothing is wrong. I've been using it without issue the last 2 days but who knows what will happen a month from now.
I called the waitress, like I was suppose to. She first began to apologize profusely again. I told it would cost at least 270USD but told her a worst case scenario would a new 1Dm4 and lens, which is way up there. I then asked if the restaurant was paying for it, because they have to have some kind of insurance, and they do. She said yes with a bit of a 'maybe' in her voice and followed up with 'Whatever needs to be paid will be paid' which I think means the company may ask her to pay because it's her fault (The shit they can get away with...labor laws suck here). I told her "Make sure the company pays, that's what insurance is for. If they don't, tell me. I don't want you getting fired. If they do, I'll go in and REALLY complain." 'The customer is always right' is very big in Japan. I've been 'nice' just because there's been no need to get angry.
You could hear the tears in her voice, poor girl. I hope that it turns out no wine made it in to anything. I was thinking I could offer some photography services free of charge to the restaurant (A pretty big restaurant in a shopping mall) to help balance things out and make sure she keeps her job with that offer...and maybe pick up some actually work along the way. With my family hear I've been doing my 'food photography' thing, amazing what off-camera flash and white cardboard can do.
I'll keep everyone in the know... |

Just my thoughts.
It's a 1D. They'll live through anything short of a 5 minute soak in saltwater while cycling the power switch. (<--This is an exaggeration, but not as much of one as you might think) |

To me it sounds like the 'poor girl' is having a pretty stressful time of all this. I don't know how things are done over there, but personally I'd get more pleasure from phoning her to and telling her the camera and lens are fine, and she doesn't have to worry anymore. |

That's what I'm hoping I can do. |
