Just in case this slipped by you (and you wouldn’t be aloneâ€Â¦)
Facebook Policy Changes
Essentially, they̢۪re making a rights grab on your data.
This is in response to their doing it before without asking permission or giving warning.
I imagine people to come down on this like this:
1) They care, but not enough to do anything about it (they don̢۪t like global warming, but won̢۪t give up driving even if they don̢۪t need to)
2) They have finally had enough and leave for good
3) They housekeep their profile and pages and eliminate as much identifying activity as possible (ie, lurking without liking)
4) They clean up a little bit and start being a little more cautious about how they use FB
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Basically, this policy change is FB̢۪s giving us our Miranda rights: anything you post, message, or click can and will be used against you. There is no opt-out.
Personally (and professionally), I am going to head towards #3. I’ll be removing all my photos, etc., and posting them to my website with links. When? Not sure, but soonâ€Â¦
What do you think?

I deactivated my account five months ago and haven't missed it. Of course, they still have all my stuff. |

I had mine deactivated a year or so ago.
Today I logged in and filled out the form.
Bye-bye FB. |

sadly, it's the way of the internet world.
i disagree, but the options are A, A, A-lite, A-Heavy and AAAAA, which is an amalgam of 5 other A's that couldn't handle things on their own.
So it comes down to the devil you know or the devil you don't, really. And it's really quite sad, because there is so much more that there could be, but why be different and fail when you can copy and make a boatload of cash by being "Red A" and compete against "Blue A" for A-supremacy. |

You agree to play by their rules and even that they can change the rules when and how they want. If you don't like it, delete your account.
The really funny part is the people posting stuff like this:

Sooo, having deactivated my FB account almost two years ago, I take it, FB can still access my info and pics and everything else...? Yes?
Second question, is there a "delete" account vs "deactivating" or are those the same.
Too lazy to read through all the FB terms of agreement... |

FBI is so yesterday. I deleted all my photos a long time ago. I never go there any more. |

That just tricked me in to logging in to and reactivating my account. It didn't take me to a form. : ( I re-deactivated.

I do hear all the concerns.
However, Facebook is a wonderful marketing tool for me. My sales have been fantastic lately. People (a targeted audience) see the photos I post and show up in my gallery to buy. The images posted on Facebook are stripped of EXIF data by Facebook and lowered to a fraction of the quality of that uploaded.
I do limit who can view my timeline and photos. At this point in time, FB is a benefit to my business. |

I've been thinking very hard about setting up a new account for just this reason. |

I'm bookmarking this thread. While Facebook is mildly useful to me,
and of course it is fun to keep up with friends,
my work is not given away. I sell it.
Thanks Skip, for your investigation and your links.

Living 10,000km away from my mother country, FB is a good tool to be in touch with the loved ones and share all kind of things, including silly selfies, what I cooked, where I travelled and what I saw, my daughter's karate brown belt exam, the arrival of my mother in law, Peter's operation and progress etc. I also do not live in the states, I do not shop online and do not really click on ads. I also feel flattered when people like my pics even though is just the Narcis inside me :)
Giving them my pictures might be a concern so I guess the idea of having a website and link to it sounds good.

Heh. I like FB for the same reason Tibi does, but I live in the same country as most of the folks I keep in touch with. It IS a very big country though.
No one ever bothers to steal my photographs, and I don't make my living through photography (I'd be awfully hungry and underclothed), and those that DO use them usually ask first. I'm quite flattered when people I know use pictures I took of them for profile pictures. Facebook is welcome to steal and market my boring life all they want. I know that's stupid and naive. I really don't mind. |

Promise you this, if Facebook does not do it, someone else will. Facebook is but one symptom, Internet itself is the devil in heaven.
I use them as much as they use me. Nothing, nothing, no NOTHING is ever free.

And the main reason - my FB peeps think I'm an awesome photographer. Most of the time, at least half of you don't think much of my photography at all. So I'll ditch this place before I ditch FB. :-) |

Don't you dare! I can't handle facebook for a variety of religious, philosophical and psychologically disordered reasons. (My goodness Deb: it's great that almost half of us think at all!) |
