If I wanted to gather the information from my portfolio and challenge entries is there a way to do it? Maybe pull it into a table that could be saved? I would love to grab thumbnail images to go with it.
Reason I ask; I've been here about 9 years and have accumulated a history, through photographs (entries), that I actually use sometimes to check a date on when something happened. I'd like to preserve that timeline if I switch from being a member to a registered user.
I'm not very comfortable with the way things appear to be heading here (seems like a hobby to the owner rather than a business with paying customers) on DPC.
Thanks. |

As a registered user, your challenge history will remain intact and accessible regardless. n(At least, as long as DPC remains viable) It's just the profile that will disappear. |

I think Bear means Portfolio (not Profile) ... photos you've uploaded but are not challenge entries will be inaccessible (but not gone) ... and they'll be restored if you become a paying member again in the future. |

Evidently there is a humongous snooze button somewhere in DPC land.
The SC is volunteer, and they complain of insufficient time to perform tasks. People volunteer, and solutions are offered. Yet the response is deafening in its silence. |

And I'd say that every one of these negative posts simply further deepens the mood and in no way contributes to any improvement in the site.
How about the next time you have an overwhelming urge to type something in a DPC text-entry box you go find a photo which scored between 4.5 and 5.4 and see if you can suggest a way for the photographer's next photo to score above average ... I think if we all did that for a week people's impression might change a bit.

I see Cory gave an excellent site on backing up what you were asking for:-). With regards to the other statements in your inquiry Barry, (and Alex and Adam:-) ) I just wanted to highlight this part of the post from Cory in that thread you refer to in the link (see post #82) before the plaints about the site ramps up.
"From what I can discern, it seems like this is something upstream that's affecting some service providers and is (mostly?) limited to sites on Sargasso Networks......
Since this is clearly out of Langdon's hands, and is way beyond any of us mere user's ability to change, for now installing a VPN solution like the one above will simply have to serve as the unofficial solution."
If it is the network that Langdon has contracted with is causing the problems either through upgrades or technical difficulties than he is at THEIR mercy much like WE are at the mercy if our ISP if they start having problems at their end.
Ever turn on your computer to find out your internet is down and your ISP reports no outages in your area on the automated phone system? Ever been on the phone for 15 to 30 minutes while you wait to talk to a person to find out why there is a problem? And of course your ISP never sends you an update that they are upgrading or changing some things in the system that may cause outages in your area sometimes for days.
Frustrating I know, but sometimes one has to be patient - I do think I read somewhere that DPC backs up their servers so if it should go down there IS a backup.
In the meantime, all we can do is notify Langdon (which I have done) and perhaps take the route Cory (see post #96) and Janine (#99) to do our part to get the site up and running again - DPC is a village and if we act TOGETHER things run all the more smoothly.

BTW, several months ago DPCprints was down - basically the hosting network changed some things. Of course the host site never notifies the customer or site owner that it might break some things (and in the response letter/post Langdon stated it took some back and forth communication between himself and the network to get things resolved).
Edited to add: There was no way to know it was broken unless you placed and order to buy a print.

I think people just want to hear from Langdon, who is the webmaster if I am correct? Since this site is hosted with Sargasso, shouldn't he be contacting them also? Maybe he is, we don't know and I think that's what's frustrating to a lot of people here. I get that we are a village here, but there is only so much the village can do when we don't know if the king is listening or not. |

I think we all can agree that we would *love* it if Langdon was reporting the issue (I, for one, would love to start seeing those green Administrative threads announcing that we know of the problem but are working to fix it)
But my point that I was very long winded about boils down to this: get all information one needs before speaking out in frustration because it doesn't help towards resolving the situation. Once you have more information THEN one can proceed in the fashion of your choice:-) I see that Cory got an update from Sargasso...looking at it now. |

From their response, it doesn't really look like they were aware of any issue.
I'm guessing the big L hadn't contacted them, but that's of no real concern at this point - I have, and they will get this fixed for us.
If you are currently unable to access DPC, please go read this post, and act accordingly. |

Exactly!
It's not like there hasn't been plenty of chatter about problems various users of DPC have been having in connecting, voting, etc... plus admin tickets submitted with the same message. The silence from ownership of this website is a message in itself IMO. A simple (even locked) thread stating they (ownership) are aware of the problem would go a long way in reassuring the paying customers of this site that someone is at the helm looking into the problems the website is having.

I applaud everyone's actions on getting the village to rise, however, in the end it still ends up in the hands of DPChallenge (the customer of Sargasso Networks) to interact with the people that can ultimately fix the problem.
From the other thread an admin at Sargasso Networks goes on to say "... we are only responsible for communicating maintenance windows to our customer and not to DPChallenge users.".
And Cory - Thank you for the link to the mirroring software. That thing is a workhorse! Need to sort out how to limit how deep it dives. Trying to set the starting point at my profile (which I've done just fine) but limit the links it follows. I'll save the details for a PM at some point if I keep pursuing it ... anyway, thanks again. |

Thanks. Yes, I forgot that the challenge entries will always be visible (as long as I remain registered to login and see them). |

I have a feeling that the most likely response, "I know there's a problem, not sure what's causing it, working to find and fix it," would still prove less than satisfactory to some folks ... |

That would be a satisfactory acknowledgement for me, instead of wondering if anything is being done. |
