Even if I give you real tar drops on fire?!
Holy hell, some folks really are hard to impress!! :) |
LOL!
Once on my way to the Western Cape we came upon this truck that rolled in between nowhere and maybe somewhere. The truck rolled, caught fire with the one guy totally trapped. I remember the smell of burning flesh and tar, and I remember the burning rubber drops from the one shoe he still wore, the sizzle and crack of muscle and fat and sinew frying. Still makes me sick. |
So now I'm curious if my photo would rate a 10 or a 1 based on that emotive impact?
Absolutely awful find, well described though. |

I'm a bit fascinated how an LOL made him launch into a horrifying tale.
BTW: Doc, no insult meant. Burning flesh is something you never forget. Not the sight, nor the sound, and especially the smell.
If I ever get Alzheimer's, the one saving grace will be forgetting that. |

Unfortunately, the one thing that reaches Alzheimer's patients is smell, and it's the memory that most lingers as well :-( At least based on my mom... |

Well, let's at least hope that he won't have any stimulus to trigger the memories, I can't imagine that it's very common that Alzheimer's patients would have the opportunity to smell burning human flesh.

I like where we're going with this, but I think we need some danger factor to make it worthy.
I suggest Burning Tar Drops. |

LOL, they're in town this week, or were in town this week - blowing up stuff - something to do with robots and bombs, but I have no idea what that means - sounds like the typical stuff they do. |

Wonder what they are up to now:-) Hmm I *think* NM is the place where they used the rocket sled to test the myth about pancaking a car between two big rigs...with the rocket sled they basically vaporized the car. Just this week on the 10 year anniversary of the show they revisited the myth about bifurcating a boat...not possible in RL but with a rocket sled well you get the picture:-) About half their myth testing is about blowing things up my favorite is when the busted all the conspiracy theories about the Moon Landing. Love the science of the show.

Go make a waterdrop photograph that would make a 2nd grade teacher cringe and declare it all wrong. |

I find this suggestion just as inappropriate as I would have found someone suggesting entering eyecandy into the cutout challenge.
Sorry Ben, but that's not at all what the OP suggested. This is an eyecandy challenge, embrace it! |

Nope. I like the challenge suggestion as it will be difficult to make it interesting and unique. As children we are told (different than taught or encouraged) how to draw, paint, etc. We are not required to revisit that approach with this water drop challenge. Naturally this applies to all challenges but since folks are back on the bandwagon of criticizing the challenge topics from a superficial perspective I thought it was a good time for a reminder (if only for myself). |

OP didn't say eye candy, he said 'unique'. Everything's on the table.

Fair enough.
Historically, (as worded by Langdon), these have been eyecandy though.
Personally, I would like to see a variety, but I'll probably have one highly 'unique' shot in my top choices, and the rest will be eyecandy - just the nature of the beast.
In the cutout challenge though, eyecandy really isn't something that's gonna be rewarded, nor was it during Ben's tribute challenge, etc.
No reason to swim against the current all the time, it's fun to go with the flow dontchaknow. |

When I was learning how to do waterdrops, a few years ago,
my kitchen was a mess for a month.
but it was an exciting and rewarding experience.
The question now? Can I find the batteries for the flash, and also remember
how to time everything just right to have something respectable enough to enter.
This is a fun challenge and should bring out a
good number of interesting and 'unique' images. |

I for one KNOW this isn't an easy challenge at all...I would like to try but it's the wkend of my grandson's 1st BD therefore...the celebration is at my house...and the party that started out at oh...about 10-12 people is now at .... ohhhhhh..... 30+ (OMG) But we have fun. So I don't see how I'll get a moment of time to "setup and execute the water drop"...now rain I could do...it's been raining like a monsoon... |

Better broaden the submission dates, then :-) THAT oughta keep DPC around for another 20 years or so, allowing for inevitable reshoots... |
It happened... :)
