I repeat. Allow all borders!!! Who cares??? God this is a stupid thing to quobble over. Allow any border people can come up with. It is that simple.

I can't believe anyone would hit the DQ button for ANY reason. I fear no image. I feel mine can hold up against any. Let them spot edit all they want, my images will still hold up.

People screaming foul, it is embarrasing...

All my opinion...

Dave

I agree, however, the squabbling and discussion is because this is supposed to be a site about photography.. without the world of over-editing to boggle it down. It is why so many came and stayed. ;0)

Well the photo's are in a table cell right now, right?

I propose a software solution. On the submit page for the photo you get a drop down for inner border width then a drop down for inner border color. You then get one for the outer border too. The code then puts your cell in two other table/cells of varying widths and colors.

If you have a post processing error with an extra pixel width, then you can DQ, but for those of us who like borders we still get a clean border that can't be disputed.

I think that's brilliant.

I know I'm late to this party, but wanted to join because I'm also a victim of a border DQ, during the Song Title challenge.

My vote is to allow free borders, but with some restrictions such as text, drop shadows, etc.

If people don't like your border, they will score the pictures accordingly.

Just my late two cents also. I fully agree with Timj's comments. How about just having an option at time of submission - 1 pixel auto border = on, auto border = off. That way if someone wants to make some gawd awful border on their own without the auto border mucking it up, they are free to do so.

As a side note, I dont mind people having the ability to create their own borders. I just happen to think that most of them detract from the image, and I do adjust my score accordingly. Kind of like other forms of bad post-processing. If you want to do some hideous things with levels, you are free to do so, but count on your scores reflecting such decisions.

Yeah... we wouldn't want to reward creativity or experimentation. That would be silly.

I'm all for creativity and experimintation, which is why I think we should continue to allow borders. I'm just saying that if a border is so bad that (imho) it hurts an image, I will adjust my score of the photo. Some have previously indicated they try to score the photo regardless of the border. In my mind, it's all part of the package. But yes, definitely, allow people to create their own borders, up to the limits currently defined. Just allow users to turn off the auto borders if they so choose.
