Hello.
I'm looking for a cheap film camera to experiment with. I'll probably buy second hand so it will be even cheaper. Any one have any recommendations?
June
PS. It has to be a Canon as I already have Canon lenses.

I have a rebel TI which is pretty much the exact same as the digital rebel, just film.
It's like 300 bucks I think. Totally worth it. |

I have a Rebel G (body only) bought in 1999 that I want to get rid of. I was going to put it for sale on Ebay. It's in great shape and has only a few wear marks on the bottom. PM me if you're interested.

If you're looking for one to experiment with you probably should get a COMPLETELY manual one. I know that it's a pain, but it lets you do more, and it will definitly help you learn the camera in and out.
I had a pentax k-1000 that I learned on, but I'm not sure about any canons like that.

Get a Holga. It'll even shoot medium format film. I know I want one.

I'd recommend an Elan II body these are now going for around$40 on eBay. It's a fantastic body, was my main Camera until 2001 when I went digital.

I've been searching on ebay and I've found several affordable "antique" rangefinder and medium format tlr. I think I might get one of those. I bid on a Yashica G Electro 35 that came with user manual and everything but was outbidded at the very last minute.

Rebel series from Canon will at least let you re-use any lenses that you have. The Ti is quite good, has full manual controls etc if you want to use them. Suffers from similar limitations as the digital version for AF control and metering though. |

Another thing, is it possible to get medium format film developed at a commercial lab or must you do your own developing? Same question for large format.

There are specialty labs that you can send it off to and get developed, but you can't just take it down to your local Walmart or Target. : )

i'd recommend the old Canon EOS Rebel XS, great camera. its probably really cheap by now if you can find one, mine still works great. has most of the modes the digital rebel has, full auto, portrait, landscape, macro, sports, full manual, aperature priority, shutter priority, A-Dep, looks like the digital rebel too, pop up flash, except that the body is black instead of silver.

You could probably get a Canon EOS Elan II body for about $250 CDN. You might even find one with eye control focus for under $300.

I used to own an AE-1 solid good manual camera that will last for years and they are very well priced too.. i used to love mine but now I use the Nikon FE2 its a black body camera from the 70's built to last.. I suggest you get an old one the newer ones seem so delicate and plastic.
