Hi,
I have shot a few pics now in RAW and TIFF instead of JPG. But when I download onto computer, I have a JPG copy of the picture, and a much larger .SRF that I am unable to open. Computer does not seem to recognise .SRF and does no know how or with what to open it.
Anybody that knows what to do?

Are you trying to open it in ps or psp without using a raw converter? I use the converter that came with my camera to open my raw files. |

Well, I am trying both, PS and the regular windows thingee. Aha, I have still not installed the software that cam with the camera. That might be a good idea!
hu hu, sometimes it is the simple things that mess you up.
I will try this, thanks for pointing out the obvious pcody! Just needed somebody to do that for me.

Depending on your camera and the version of PS you have, you may have to download the raw file converter from Adobe. |

I will look into that.
I think I have a fairly new version of the PS, and I am able to open RAW. But it is the .SRF that I can not open.

.SRF stands for Sony Raw File. There are only 2 applications that I know of that will open them--one is Sony's bundled software that came with the 828, and the other is the latest update to Adobe Camera RAW, which is only available as a plug in for Photoshop CS. If you have PS CS, you can download it here:
//www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=2460
If you don't have PS CS, you're stuck with Sony's software. |

Do you know if the Sony software is any good? I try to stay away from installing all the software that I can. If I can have PS (yes I have PS CS) do this then I will try that rather than installing Sony.
Thanks for that info, very helpful Zal.

From what I read, the Sony software is slow and pretty much crap--I follow the same philosophy as you do, and don't install anything I don't need. I do not have the Sony software installed, and just use PS CS to do the RAW conversions. It gives all the functionality of the Sony software, it's faster, and obviously integrated into PS, so you don't have to resave and open again in PS.
All you need to do is download the update, and you're set.

Adobe Raw Converter 2.2 supports Sony F828. So it should work fine for you. You can download it from the link i my original post.

I agree completely. The SONY software sucks. The PS CS RAW plugin works great. I have been shoting in RAW almost exclusively lately.

No problem, Arnarp. Glad to be of help--especially to a fellow 828 user. We gotta stick together, ya know... :-) |
