I found this picture when looking for a photo to use for an application for a college group. It was part of a photo with her sister, but I found it so adorable that I had to isolate her. ^_^

It reminds me some of the style of the photographer discussed in this thread... (the eyes)

As much as I'm a dog freak (I have two myself which I just returned home from walking) I think that a vast majority of this kind of photo has its greatest appeal to dog owners - especially the proud parents of the animal itself.

For example, a significant amount of the frame is occipied by an uninteresting gray concrete patch. Not particularly distracting, yet not particularly complimentary.

There's no doubt this is a beautiful dog, but what makes her beautiful? Is it the expressiveness of her face? If so, how much of the face can we see in this shot? Is it her eyes? If so, what does this shot do to draw attention to the eyes? With most goldens their body has an extremely muscular tone with a glowing golden coat. How much of that form and glow can we see in this shot relative to other elements? You might try looking at the library for a copy of the AKC's breed book and see how they depict the animal for ideas, or study the history of the breed for ideas of scenes and actions to capture it in.

What I'm getting at is that you have a beautiful dog here, but to transition from a great snapshot of your dog, it needs to have something that separates it from the legions of other proud pet owners with equally amazing animals. Hope this comes across constructively as I've been there!

Here's an example of the only photo of my dogs (out of hundreds of snapshots!) I've put out in a gallery. When I took it I was particularly trying to show the sporting tradition of the labrador by shooting in the field. I located a section of the trail with colors that complimented her coat, and formed an interesting backdrop. Don't get me wrong, it'll never be a magazine cover, but hopefully it helps to make an example of trying to move past the basic pet snapshot.

This is the only photo of my dog that I think has appeal to other people. All my others are just cute snapshots :) I bought my girlfriend a copy from DPC Prints and she fell in love with it. I think it's the eyes :)

Well, I know the patio color is boring, but I use it because it is out of the sun and it was way too hot to take photos of the pups in the grass (which I prefer). Her coat is that color, she's not a "gold" golden I guess.

When I found this my eyes were automatically drawn to her eyes, and the tounge was a bonus (but adorable), so I tried to crop it and make it bring those out, I thought I'd done that, if not, do you have any advice on how to adjust it?

Thanks Laurie for the comment and Loki for the favorite!

One I took from my dog two weeks ago, not so bad I think. She would not stay in place long enought to take that kind of picture normally. :)
