Don't you usually bring your own crowd with you?

i have absolutely NO sympathy for you when you have access to a crowd nearly every hour on the hour...

I am having trouble finding a crowd. I am hoping the DPC voters are not requiring huge throngs of people -- remember that two's company and three's a crowd.

I have tried to turn to the streets of Chicago in search of a crowd. I am often not that comfortable in a crowd of strangers under normal circumstances. However, I find I am more uncomfortable trying to create some space between me and my camera in order to inset myself into a crowd of strangers. I am worried one of them might decide to run off with my camera.

My crowd wasn't worth waiting for!!

(Yup, I timed the crowd wrong and had to wait for an hour; and then it fizzled. :(

No crowd here either, just rain, rain, rain&snow and rain again...

No crowds here either, unless we count sheep.

I shot for this one for maybe ten minutes and found a crowd okay. What I found hard was to get in close enough to myself so that the less than generous voters will consider it a portrait and still end up with a lot of other people in the frame. I figured out a way to do this on a reshoot I think. But given how I showed every one of my too many years in the first try, I'll pass on this one! :P

Exactly why I'm not even thinking about this challenge. Even in mild mannered Madison, there is still unscrupulous activity

Oh -- I doubt they'd consider mine a portrait, then. Oh well. I hope portrait is interpreted loosely. I figured it was more a picture of yourself in a crowd -- not a typical portrait definition.

No crowds in my town this time of year. I could have gone up to Bear Lake and found groups snowshoeing. Or, I was going to pose with about 300 elk. But, those concepts would have been submarined by some voters, so I'll just pass.

i want to see the elk!
this challenge would have been more amusing to do and to vote on if it had been expert editing.

Uh oh, I don't want to be the one to plant a seed of negativity in the voter's minds, that's done too often in these forums. To me Wendy, any kind of environmental portrait for this topic would be just fine. However, it is my perception (maybe incorrect) that all images of late at DPC are getting an increasing amount of low votes. If I am right about that then tactical voters aside, we have some voters looking to pick away at any aspect of an image including topic interpretation- hence my reluctance. If I vote on this challenge I will myself be much more forgiving of "portrait worthiness" :)

If I had the nerve, & the wardrobe, I'd dress as one of the People of Wal-Mart & do my shot right there in line, during the after-work rush. It's the biggest crowd I can think of in this tiny town.

I think there are plenty of ways to interpret "in"...... also a crowd of what? I think this is a great challenge and perhaps too many are stuck in a typical crowd mindset....... only 11 entries!!!! Geez.....where is the imagination factor!!!!! Self portraits can be as varied as......well hmmmm..............ummmmmmm let me think...... faces in a crowd......

Not much of a portrait: check
Not much of a crowd: check

I have had nothing in voting the last few days. I have to enter. Looks like I should be prepared for a rough week of voting. Here hoping for a top 20 finish.

Haha, me too! I don't have any energy for photography right now, but if I did I would assemble a crowd of stuffed animals (I have a lot of those), put a mirror in amongst them, & do my portrait in a crowd that way. I just don't have the energy to get out of this lazyboy. I'm recovering from surgery.
