I just saw this in the news and here... huge evacuations in New York.
I hope everyone is safe.

I do too, anyone heard from Penny, Eli or Mariuca, I tried PM' Mariuca but didn't hear back, I'm assuming she has evacuated.

I'm here Anita! On the barricades. So far, all is calm. At least in my neck of woods. Evacuations from Staten Island and along the Hudson.
People got a few gallons of water and probably unnecessary food. Supposedly tomorrow midday will be nasty winds. Not looking forward to it.
PS. pennystreet & co are in Manhattan.

Here in CT, we'll be hit with the eastern part of the storm. Higher sustained winds, less rain. Though those on the sound will be impact by major flooding as water rushes in compounded with 4 tides.

Up here in Maine, we are just hoping we don't get too much more rain.... we are already water logged.

I've got a big cast-iron woodstove for heating and cooking on, flashlights, lots of charged up batteries and lots of food that's been dehydrated stored in glass jars, so it won't go bad. The 16oz water bottles in the freezer are a good idea, just make sure you remember that water expands when frozen and will split the bottles open! Take a swig from those water bottles first before stashing them!

Think we're lined up for mostly precip, possibly snow and some high winds. Honestly not worried unless one of my big maples comes down.

If i m looking at the map right, this things homing in straight for us. Should be interesting.

Schools here have all announced closings for tomorrow and a lot announced for Tuesday already. I wish the governor would announce that state office buildings will be closed. The PA House and Senate are both closed. I tried to talk my husband into shutting down his plant tomorrow but he wouldn't listen. He's not taking this seriously at all. I had to tell him like 4 times to get the flashlights ready before he did. Everyone here also got phone calls from the power company to expect power outages for at least a week.

Best wishes to everyone in the way of wild weather. I hope you all stay safe and that not too much destruction occurs.

so after following the storm for a while, it is said that we could have up to 12 inches of snow and power outages for days.
no thank you!
we just suffered massive power outages in late June (I think is when it was). almost 2 weeks without power... had to get a hotel room, Dallas couldn't take that kind of environment.
now, more possible outages? you've got to be kidding me!
and I thought we'd face bad weather conditions in Oklahoma! turns out its wayyyyyyy worse here. lovely.

be careful everyone! stay safe

We'll be thinking about our our DPC friends as you go through this rough weather with all the stressful stuff that goes along with that. Stay safe.

ETA, Here's a good blog covering all that's going on in NYC.

Manhattan looking like a science fiction set: totally empty and silenced.
We expect "action" starting 2 PM

not so bad in jersey right now, rain and wind, not gusting too hard. we lost power last night, which is odd because we never lose power and the storm really had been upon us yet.

i hear Halloween may be postponed til the weekend.

How is everyone handling the storm....I hear that it is snowing in some parts and there are some decent gusts of wind
10/29/2012 08:52:49 AM · #118
just raining and cold here... so far, so good.

Some sources say it'll just be 4-6 inches of rain here, others say low snow accumulation, still others say 12"+

To all DPCer's in the path (including Langdon and Drew) stay safe everyone - hopefully it will not be as bad as some reports are projecting.

I was going to point out that DPC itself (i.e. servers) may be affected by any power outages ...

I know the code is held together with bailing wire and duct tape, but I thought this was hosted by a proper datacenter?

Nope, nevermind - just checked their site out, and the last "newsletter" was from 2008....
